Pareidolia is seeing things where there is ambiguous input. Perhaps, you see a face in a cloud, or an elephant in your coffee grounds. Lunar pareidolia is that phenomenon on things relating to the moon. A crater that looks like a fist bump, or a bunch of craters that together look like rubber duck.
Clair obscur (in the context of the moon) is seeing shapes and patterns because of light and shadow on the lunar surface.
What I'm slightly unclear about is whether clair obscur comes under the broader category of pareidolia or not, it would seem to make sense that it is I does. Pareidolia is listed as a 'see also' in the clair obscur entry on the-moon.us so that's something. I don't think it really matters, but just seems like a missing connection. Moths and butterflies are both in the lepidoptera family, are clair obscur and lunar pareidolia both types in the pareidolia family? Regardless, I think LP and CO are very cool and fun.
