Fully understand - my marathon PB is 2:57 and I also ran 3:22 when I was 60 (to get a Good for Age place in the London Marathon) but now that I’m 70 I have drawn a line under the full distance and am now concentrating on the half marathon (which has always been my favourite distance anyway). Never really did enough distance each week to get near my full potential in the full marathon (my half marathon PB is 76:25) but I am still able to run around 1 hour 45 minutes for the half some 35 years after my PB - the point I am making is that most of those who would beat me out of sight in the full marathon are no longer running, many because they are so injured they can’t - run for enjoyment and don’t beat yourself up about times - you have completed 3 full marathons - how many people can say that?

Love this Martin! There are some amazing acheivements that you have!! No rush either to success, im 97kg and i'm a big lad so im never going to get low 3 or sub 3 at this current weight, but I dont want to at the sacrifice of other areas such as strengh and phsyique! 100% Agree with the distance thing, you have to fully commit to that and I dont want todo that with my life at the moment of running a business etc! But yeah Half marathons are going to be the longest for the time being! Appreciate the message

@@Hybridad - what I didn’t say was that I ran my 2:57 off 40 miles a week training and my longest training run was 18/19 miles - yes, if I had ran 80 miles a week and increased the long run to 22 miles perhaps I would have a PB closer to 2:45 but with a daily commute to London and 2 small children there are only so many hours in the day! Good luck with your future endeavours - for my part I have a half marathon in 5 weeks time where I hope to run somewhere around 1:43, but first I am volunteering at this weekend’s London Marathon, sorting and handing out kitbags to the weary, but mainly happy finishers - great to be able to give something back to the sport I love…

Well done. Enjoyed the footage. 13.1 miles seems to be my limit. I deferred my Manchester 2023 entry to next year. It will be my first marathon. I am still not convinced I will do it 😀😀

Thanks Paul! You will do it mate! There is no limit to what you can do! You have already done more than most with a half so its just about building on top of that!

I was there mate and all I can say is the training pays off. If you want a time just pick a marathon plan and stick to it. I'm 47 and broke 3:30 taking an hour and 16 off my PB. But equally, if it's not for you pick a plan for a shorter distance and stick to that. It works as long as you stick to it, practice the right distances and fuelling.

Brutally honest and straight talking... I did Manchester to liverpool ultra a week before and completed 3.50.29 Marathons are a love hate relationship... I found it far more mentally tougher than a 50 mile ultra 💪

@@Hybridad ultras minus getting the mandatory kit is chilled out more than anything, checkpoint min 6-13 miles, can slow and walk hills to conserve energy to ensure a finish while meeting cut offs..while marathons getting 26.2 done ASAP ✔️
