Very true. I have always had problems with my health and started losing molars when I was 12 years old and over the years spent thousands of dollars trying to preserve the remaining teeth. But today am no longer able to afford the level of dental care required and have lost a couple more teeth in the last couple of years as a result, including previously botched root canals. Those who can afford good dental care or who have insurance have much to be thankful for.

Same in the UK! many people cannot even get to see a dentist & waiting lists are over 5 years unless you can afford to pay private of which many can't. Yes of course we'd like to replace missing teeth but we are not in a position to, dentistry in UK is dire right now & increasing population is only making the problem worse, perhaps making a video on an urgent topic such as millions of people not getting basic dental treatment in 2024 would be beneficial to many & highlight this very concerning issue!!

True, true. But, FYI- bad things happened to my teeth eventually, even though: -I had parents that instilled good routine in everything, including dental hygiene; -I brushed at least 3x per day, usually after eating because I couldn't stand the feeling of unclean teeth; -After having gone 7 years without seeing a dentist (in my 20s), the dentist in my first appointment as an adult said my teeth looked so good he had assumed I had them cleaned & attended to 6 months prior. Being taught (or self-teaching) a good oral routine is great! Unfortunately for some people, it's not 100% of the game, & there are a few other situations that CAN negatively affect dentition.

The best way to stay out of the dentist's off is to eliminate sugar, carbs, and processed foods. Your oral problems are a result of the health of your entire body and microbiome, not just your mouth. Modern mouthwash and toothpaste are not only worthless but harmful. These dentist's have student loans, office overhead, college funds for their kids, and mortgages to very nice homes to pay for. So I had to chew on the other side for years before I started getting severe headaches, jaw pain, lock jaw (one jaw opens 2-3 secs ahead of the other), neck pain and shoulder pain. Yes, because I haven't been using the right side for chewing for years, I developed and suffered temporomandibular jaw (TMJ) pain for about 8-9 years now. Despite having undergone physical therapy, worn night guard, and added a bridge on the missing molars so I can use the right side again for chewing, my TMJ pain isn't completely gone. I still experience severe headaches and jaw pain, especially when I'm stressed out. I'm considering masseter botox as a last option but I'm still in the process of researching.

Teeth extraction was quite common in the past. I had an „overcrowded“ mouth. I think it‘s how they call it when you have too much teeth. 😅 This led to teeth pushing against each other and in the end, it looked so bad and we did not have the money for braces. I got two teeth removed at the bottom and it was the worst decision ever. This led to gum recession to the nearby teeth and my orthodontist was not amused about it, when we decided to start with the braces. Now I have all teeth aligned, but still regret this extraction, as there is no replacement for the 2 missing. An extraction should be the absolute last resort.

If there will be any movement in the teeth, not less than 7 to 8 years or even 10 years depends which tooth. The back upper 2nd and third molars (wisdom tooth) won't be a shifting if they were removed however, if the lower molars are removed, the upper one might, just might be effected through the "years". The front teeth tend to shift more. Bottom line, back molars missing effect a bit the chewing process while the front teeth effects the appearance. If you want to just save the bone and don't care about looks or function, can you get just the implant with no abutment and crown?, or just no crown?
@SweetStuffOnMonarchLane
6 ай бұрын
No, the thing that saves the underlying bone is the *force* applied to the bone, in this case it means the oppositional forces of two teeth coming together, as in chewing, that will build the bone supporting those teeth. If there's no oppositional force because there's no crown there to touch the opposite existing tooth, your body won't keep bone in that space, even if the implant screw is there, and that implant screw would eventually loosen as the bone deteriorates. That's also why it's harder to get an implant to be as successful if too much time has gone by since a tooth has been pulled... eventually there won't be enough bone there for it to screw into. They can use cadaver bone to increase the chance of it taking, but it's not 100% successful. It's also why she said if you have directly opposing teeth missing from the upper _and_ lower jaw and you don't want implants, it's not _as big_ of a deal (if you also don't mind not being able to chew as well!) when it comes to bone loss to let them be because the surrounding teeth will sortof squish the gaps together... but maybe not all the way. If the case is that there's an existing tooth in the upper jaw, but it's opposite in the lower jaw is missing, not only will the bone where the missing bottom tooth deteriorate, there would be no oppositional force for that upper tooth to push against, which will eventually deteriorate the underlying bone in it too, cause it to drop down over time, and you would probably lose that tooth as well. Bone grows when there is force applied to it, and deteriorates away when there's not. This same principle applies to the rest of your body too: if you were to sit in a chair the rest of your life, the bones (as well as the muscles) in your legs and hips would slowly deteriorate because your body does not waste or spend resources on something you don't use or need. You can see this, unfortunately, in people who have spent years in a wheelchair, especially if they havent had physical therapy to keep it from happening. If you walk often, your body will put resources and energy into growing bone (and muscles) in your legs and hips because you are telling it, through daily walking, that you need that part of your body. Carefully lifting weight is a great way to grow bone because it causes your muscles to put force on the bones, sending a message to the osteoblasts (bone building/growing cells) to get to making bone! If no force is applied to your bones, the osteoclasts (cells that break down bone tissue) get the message to go to work and get rid of the bone in that part of your body it doesn't use anymore. I probably over-explained that, but hopefully it helps anyway! =)
@radfaraf
6 ай бұрын
@tuffOnMonarchLaneThanks for the explanation, could there not be some much cheaper invention to temporarily place in a lost tooth area to then provide some force when chewing or some other activity then to stimulate the bone in the missing tooth area to keep it from deteriorating as much, and/or to provide force against the opposite tooth that is still there? Even if there is no such invention it sounds like there could be such a thing invented for those who can't afford implants or have other reasons they won't get them. As a made up example not meant to be a real solution you could mold some soft/flexible substance there then dry/bake it make to get it to be hard and solid, and chew on it a few times a day in that area of your mouth? It would be there to provide something for the opposite tooth to have to apply force to and then also transfers that force to the opposite bone without a tooth. Or even in the spot that I have no tooth it's past 4 months tooth removed, can I just press hard on the spot for two minutes over and over again three times a day or some other exercise to preserve the bone? There is no known antibiotic I can safely take and its too dangerous for me to experiment even with the help of allergist if there is one that i could take. So I didn't get an implant because I would be really screwed if I had an infection. So was trying to come up with ingenious ways to get less bone loss without an implant.

@@radfaraf You have some good questions. I'm not in the dental field, just an X-Ray Technologist with two dental implants myself, lol, but my first thought was that flipper or partial that she talked about in the video, so I went back and rewatched it. She said that those don't really do enough to preserve bone... so they wouldn't work unfortunately. I don't think putting an object in the space or using your finger to press hard a few times a day would work because the force is on the skin covering the bone, not the bone itself, and the force needed to keep that bone growing rather than receding would be enough to damage/break open that skin covering. The human bite force is up to 162 pounds per square inch, so that's quite a bit. Plus I think it would have to be a very frequent thing, thinking about how often we chew and just clench our teeth together in general every day. I do a lot, because of stress, lol! 🤣 So much so, I have to wear a bite guard at night. It was so stressful working during covid, I actually broke two of my molars from clenching my teeth while sleeping!! That's when my dentist suggested the bite guard! That's really unfortunate about your allergy to antibiotics... I don't think I've ever heard of anyone being allergic to all of them like that. I'm trying to remember if I had to take antibiotics when I had my two implants done, and I really can't remember. I know I've had to use a prescription oral antiseptic rinse that was really strong, before and after invasive dental procedures. It cuts the bacterial load waaay back so there is much less chance of infection during and after invasive dental procedures. It's called chlorhexidine gluconate. I didn't like it because it made food taste weird to me, but of course that's a small price to pay to avoid possible infection. Four months post-extraction is not very long at all, so time-wise, you're bone is still ok. Have you talked to a specialist in dental implants? If not, I would give them (or several of them) a call and tell them of your allergy to all antibiotics and that you would be unable to take them neither prophylactically or if an infection were to occur, but that you really want to preserve that bone to prevent more damage to your other teeth. Maybe they have a way they can still help you. I would think it would still be possible... I mean you had a tooth pulled, which is just as invasive, or close to it... but I'm definitely not an expert. I hope they can find a way to help you! 🙏

I also lost a molar 22 years ago, but never replaced it. It sucks. I have spent $8,000 so far this past year and that’s with insurance. I still have more to come. Old fillings give way since I am 55. Unfortunately a lot of folks cannot afford the high prices. ☹️

I've had 2 big gaps from 2 missing teeth. My side top and side bottom. Do you think that dentist bothered to see how i was progressing... nope. Now i have a bigger problem than before.

I have two missing molars, but it's because they never came out. The first dentist I had did mention it, the other two didn't, and the third one did, but none of them mentioned how it can affect my other molar.
