In 1998 Professor Martin Michaelis received his Pharmacy Degree, followed by his PhD in 2001 from the Goethe-University, Frankfurt, Germany. He then worked at the Institute of Medical Virology postdoctoral and later as deputy group leader. He also worked at the Dr Petra Joh-Forschungshaus (a private research institute in Frankfurt am Main). Martin Joined the University of Kent in 2011. He runs a joint wet/dry laboratory research group. His recent work focussed on COVID-19, and he provided expert media commentary on vaccines and other treatments, variants, and restrictions. His expertise on COVID-19 led to him featuring on a range of news outlets from The Daily Mail to BBC Radio Kent.
