If you’ve got a relatively new tv there’s not necessarily a reason need to upgrade. HDMI 2.0 already supports 120fps up to 1440p if your tv is 120hertz. In reality games are unlikely to run that high a framerate at a resolution higher than that anyway unless the graphics are fairly basic in which case you’re unlikely to get much of a benefit from full 4K anyway.

Oof. A lot of misinformation here. A lot of underselling HDMI 2.0b. Your existing HDMI cable can already carry 4k 60fps, with extra features like hdr, very, and cec. It can also do the same at 120fps at resolutions up to 1440p. The ONLY reason to update to an HDMI 2.1 cable is to display in 8k, or to display in 4k at frame rates above 60fps. Your PS5 and XSX WILL NOT BE POWERFUL ENOUGH to render games in 8k, or in 4k at high frame rates. The only reason I see to plug a next-gen console in using an. HDMI 2.1 cable is to play 8k video content if you have an 8k TV. At least until the next gen, HDMI 2.1 will only really be useful for running games at 4k 120fps from a high-end PC to your TV.
@vherostar

Your video is really gonna confuse people here. All those 120fps games you listed are 120fps at 1080p on ps5 and xbox series X so you dont need hdmi 2.1. In fact I doubt any AAA game will ever do 120fps 4K on the ps5 or xbox series X, even higher specced PCs have trouble doing 4K 120FPS. HDMI 2.0 will support up to 120fps up to 1440p. It seems like your trying to push those kickback links for TVs here on your article by making gamers worried they are going to be missing out. Saying "if you dont care about 120FPS I wouldn't worry about HDMI 2.1" though is real devious here and downright bending the truth.

Not to mention that if a game DOES manage to hold 120 fps at 4K, it will no doubt involve visual effects compromises (such as no ray tracing). LG NanoCell 49NANO85UNA. 49 inch $600 IPS-LED TV with 2 HDMI 2.1 ports supporting 4k 120hz. Best bang for the buck tv on the market right now, actually affordable for most people. Spent several days searching for a good budget option and found this. You're going to want HDMI 2.1. It also has all the bells and whistles you'd want including Dolby Vision.

The games that can play over 60fps and if they drop HDMI 2.0 could act as a buffer not allowing it to go over 60fps so you dont get frame drops from stay 80 to 65fps, which while higher, you will notice the stutter and frame loss.

No need to right now. I upgraded from a 1080p to a 4K LG with 120hz (2.0 hdmi) and it's perfectly fine and games look amazing. I wouldn't understand why you'd take out over 1k from your bank to purchase an 8K TV with the 2.1 port as no games run 8K or go higher then 60fps on consoles yet.

Things about this video are very inaccurate, and I believe, deliberate. When the author stated the LG OLED was the only TV the individual new of that currently has a HDMI 2.1 port; while prior too, the individual in question posted video footage (3:52 - 3:58) of the sony xbr85x900H. In my opinion I believe bias was given to LGOLED as the probability of this being a infomercial/LG sponsored video. Gamespot why not just state in future videos, that your sponsored by the specific party?

These videos should just be - HDMI 2.1- do you need to upgrade your TV...NO. 4k at 120Hz is not something that is going to happen within the first few years. Maybe a DLSS like upscaling will be implemented as the actual work load to run something at native 4k at 120hz is not small. If you are looking to get a new tv for the next gen systems the TCL R635 seems to be the best choice. 1440P at 120Hz native oh and VRR. Which unless you are 2 feet away will not be able to tell the difference between 4k and 1440p. Also some TV's that have HDMI 2.1 ports are waiting for firmware updates to even use the port to the fullest potential.

I've read that if you have a receiver like the Yamaha RX-V6A that has HDMI 2.1 ports, you can attach multiple devices like a PS5, Xbox Series X, & a high-end PC, and you would still be able to take advantage of the HDMI 2.1 spec features as it passes through your receiver and into your tv. Also, I've read that Sony's X900H will update HDMI ports 3 & 4 to the 2.1 spec with a firmware update.
