Interesting metaphor. The way I learned this was to build a life, improve yourself and implement your plans. It always takes a lot of time, effort and work. I learned much of this from my wife, Penny. She was 14 years older than me, a very wise woman. We were EMT/Paramedic partners working in EMS together for decades. Unfortunately, after knowing her for 43 years, she passed away suddenly in 2020. I can tell you they don't women like her anymore. But life goes on. I keep on sailing the boat without her.

The catch for women - is that if the captain really wants longterm monogamy, then he is also quite selective for a variety of traits. So it's not like they get to pick whichever guy they want. Men are choosy in mate selection as well (if they have a monogamous inclination). The stoke must be mutual.

I like the metaphor but you missed the pending flood that's coming for them. While they are evaluating the boat and the captain there is flood coming that will drown them if they don't choose soon. In a balanced marketplace the women will get on boats that are free. In today's market there is a long rope hanging off the back of the nice yachts and instead of getting in a small boat and remaining dry they hang on to the ropes and get dragged along until they finally fall off, while drowning they beg for a small boat to come along and rescue them.

I am a former government contractor. Recently became a sailing instructor. One of these days I'd like to lit'rully not figuratively sail away for a few years. I recently met a woman at a business dinner, who -- among other desireable-to-me qualities -- said that she'd like to go live on a sailboat for a year or two, and just explore. She had no idea that I sailed. She does now 😉 The analogy in this video is fantastic.

@bdtrap

@kurtvanluven9351 mmm. That's a good point / question. For me, personally, I hope not. Someone who wants to join Kon Tiki has a different outlook on life than I do. Staying with the analogy, I haven't got a megayacht - and quite frankly I haven't got the resources to build or own one - so, that demographic of passengers are simply beyond my reach / out of my league. But, I don't want to spend my time with passengers whose standard of comfort is no running water and no galley. There are other boats for those personas - and they should take them. Because, while I own and maintain and navigate and run the boat, on my boat every passenger is crew and every passenger is expected to contribute. In real life, I don't bring anyone on the boat who can't contribute. They don't all have to know how to navigate or how to sail or first aid or how to fix engines, etc. But they can cook, they can keep watch, they can monitor the radio, they can read up on customs and immigration for our next destination, they can save me time by reading the weather forecasts. Even if all they do is take pictures that make for nice memories, everybody contributes something.

One of the better metaphors to explain something that is actually so nuanced and little understood and without a doubt subject to reductionism "the practice of analyzing and describing a complex phenomenon in terms of phenomena that are held to represent a simpler or more fundamental level, especially when this is said to provide a sufficient explanation." An example is that so many tritely say it's about "money, game and muscles". I would like to add that perhaps the captain could approach this exchange with his own criteria that goes beyond an attractive chassis (since we're using metaphors) by ensuring how many previous owners and the mileage of his prospective passengers to ensure a smooth voyage.

Took a few medical classes about STD'S and decided that self-pleasure carried no risk. I still desire to be with someone maninly women but it's just flirting. In this metaphor, does choosing a captain and boarding a boat mean long-term commitment? How does the metaphor address the hookup culture? Is it where young women spend their 20s at the pub next to the dock partying with the crew of all the boats?

I think the "Chart a course" part of the metaphor will be the part where the Captain defines his objective (his "course" - and that can be a committed relationship, it can be a hook-up, it can be anything he wishes. The overall point is still valid, he will be standing beside his "boat" actively and honestly advertising that particular "course".

(health benefits) you don't chase customers, you determine what your price is, and demonstrate your value, or wether or not you are over priced. in general men want fit, feminine and friendly. friendly is generally how most women get customers in the door, feminine is how they keep them, and fit and fresh is how they can charge a premium.

Interesting metaphor and a good point! If only finding a partner was that simple in practice. At some point a gal has to build her own boat and do some solo sailing to get to where she really wants to be. I personally don’t love the idea of not being my own captain or being a dinghy hoping to be pulled to a promised destination. Maybe in an earlier stage in life it was more true for me. I’m sure there are plenty of wonderful folks hanging out at the dock, but it makes more sense to me to find a captain who is actually sailing on a similar path as me than to hop onto someone else’s boat and hope they are gonna take me to the right place.

But this time it isn't sinking. It might be that boat. Not the poontoon, the ferry. I guess just wait till everyone who thinks they are worthy of boarding boards, and then sink myself? Or the 2x2 x2 which isn't animals, but active DNA strand pairs,. Just hope they are dinosaurs? Or maybe just corral those who would be corraling and sell some slaves see how they like that. Id put it this way. Imagine men and women are on a desert island the women have boats but none know how to fish. The men go out and train to be captains. The deal is whatever fish you catch will be a split 50/50 Once they men have trained the women pick the best captains who will get the most fish. All the women will clamor for the best captains to take over their boat. The captains will want to take over the best ships. Unfortunately for men the worse captains with shaky resumes will get the worse ships or ignored. Unfortunately for women the best captains will want to take multiple boats and if they wait too long is as the boats sit in the harbor or if they let too many captains take test drive their boats.

Women don't have the "pick of it." They must compete with other women who want to go on a certain boat to get to a certain place, and those captains do interview the women too since it's a one-passenger boat, not a cruise. BY the time you get to a boat that will take just about anyone, you don't want to get to that destination anyway. Women also must make it to the destination in time, which often means yesterday. This presentation makes it sound much easier for women than it actually is.

@roses6564

@@GermanEistee2000 It isn't. If anything, it is more difficult for women to find a mate they actually love and respect because women are naturally more selective, whether men like this bio reality or not. So they compete fiercely with each other for a certain pool of men. Otherwise, if you mean "grab any offer" then yes, it's easier for women. Eventually the females who lose the game settle for what's within reach and the nagging, moodiness and depression begin. God ROFLS.

Most definitely women are in "competition" with each other over the most valuable, desired men... the problem most of them have today is not consciously realizing such a competition exists until it's too late. That said, the "easier" part for them (compared to what men have to go through) is being able to more easily attract qualified potential candidates for the job really without much effort on their part (at least initially) during their "prime" years... For a typical man to put himself in such a position, he really has to bust his as* working and developing himself to the max...

That metaphor might have worked great a hundred years ago, but between women's sexual liberation, the development of contraceptives and being able to choose when to have kids, and that so few fathers these days seem to teach their daughters how to evaluate men for desirable qualities, I'm not sure that metaphor still holds up so well here in the 21st century. Now that women no longer know how to evaluate men, with the existence of "dating" apps (which inevitably turn into apps for seeking causal sex and one-night stands), and the internet enabling and encouraging 80% of the women chasing after the top 20% of the men, I'm not sure that really holds up any more.
