Just bought mine. Red on red. I'm in love. Coming from a Mitsubishi Mirage. But I've owned a 5.0 Foxy and still have my 4.6 Mercury. I don't think I want any more horsepower on this tiny gas saver. Everyone gets all flustered it isn't a 5.0 But I'm having fun in it so I don't really care. It sounds good and is like a little track pack. People forget that low HP I4s were the heart of many German sports cars in the yester year.

@Sheehy223

Wild that Ford built so many of these that there's still a ton of 4 cylinders running around. In a few years most will be V8 swapped as original 5.0 cars in good shape get harder and harder to find.

Its why if I get a fox body I'm gonna be looking specifically for a 4 cylinder, 5 speed plus something about hearing a mustang that sounds like that gives me joy even if it is painfully slow

It’s honestly shocking how the 2.3l sounds stock. Don’t get me wrong, it’s nothing special and yes, other engines blow it away sound and performance wise. It’s got a nice little growl to it though.

I mean if you want power yeah, but if you just want a cool looking classic car with good gas mileage and stellar reliability, those lima engines are pretty great, had one in my ranger, it was at 330k before some jackass hit me a week ago and totaled my truck

Also if you put in forged internals you can crank the boost and rev at 8k rpms all day, it was a very popular engine in dirt track racing even up to very recent times, i think they are phasing them out in favor of something else now though

You don't mention what year the car is but from the air bag and electronic ignition it's 90 or later. That would be a 2nd gen A4LD transmission. I rebuilt the 1st gen A4LD in my 87 recently. The aftermarket parts are better than original and shifts better than from the factory. It's still powered by a 90hp 2.3L though lol.

hello, my partner just bought what i believe to be this model of car. red 1989 Fox body mustang, its the 4cyl one. neither of us are really good or versed in cars or autotech and im trying to do research so i can help them drive this car safely. it appears to be in stunning condition and we drove it home from ritzville washington to shoreline washington. about 120 miles and it felt great. i drove it for about 50 miles but i have intense crash related ptsd and couldnt handle it for too long. im wondering how my partner or i could get reliable info about this car, and if anyone has any tips for driving cars like this, specifically the automatic transmission version with the overdrive feature. i saw in this video the driver using it as regular drive, when he flipped a Uey, i thought i saw him shift from R directly to (D), when i though you had to use D first and then shift up to (D) after surpassing 40mph. sorry if im grossly misunderstanding anything, please have patience. we’re respectively 18 and 21, and have always driven automatics newer than 1998, never ford owners either. thanks for your time if you read.

You can drive these in Overdrive just like most modern cars. You can downshift manually to regular drive to pull a hill better. The transmission is supposed to do this automatically but you can do it manually if you want it downshifted sooner. The automatic transmissions in these cars are known for problems with the overdrive though. That's part of why the manual 4 speed and 5 speed transmissions are preferred.

I know these are gut less but I found one cheap would a 2.3 be worth welding the diff and making a drift car or would a auto 2.3 not even turn the tires?
@shadygingergarage
2 жыл бұрын
I had a Bimini blue 93 with the "8 plug" 2.3 and an automatic. That car would boil tires all day long. However, it's nowhere near enough power for drifting. I'd LS or 5.8 swap one if I was going to compete in drifting.

@@F0XSTANG88 as far as I know, if it came from another 2.3 vehicle (Thunderbird, Ranger, Mustang) it should bolt up. However, I'm not sure of the year to year changes. Ford is pretty bad about that. I am much more well versed in 1974-1992 GM vehicles although I do currently have 3 Ford's and 2 Chevy's with another Ford on the way.

Do u know alot about the 2.3 engines I have a 87 notch 4cyl say if I am on the highway in there is a slight up hill on the highway maybe about 4 miles long in it's not even that much of a incline my car will start to spit in sputter it just loses power I replaced the timing belt last summer just did a full tune up I am pretty sure I have a bad valve guide seal at the 1 plug!! So what do u think maybe dirty injectors it runs great around the city but like I said if u come to a hill in it like long hill it loses power but once u make up the hill the car will run fine again!! I am going to being a V8 swap on it soon I just need it now cause it's my daily driver! Yeah 1 more thing say if I pull over somewhere for a few minutes with the car idling then I go to take off the car sounds like it has a real bad spark knock no power for like 4 ft then it's fine any help I do appreciate thank u!!!

Every 2.3 I've daily driven in a Mustang has been great except the one in this video. Guy I sold it to replaced the fuel tank and did a full tune up and it's running great. That's really all I've got. I've had 3 Rangers powered by the 2.3 and they were all so bad you couldn't drive them. I do know that one of the rangers had a dirty fuel system and ran great after it was cleaned. One of the others had 3 bent valves and ended up getting another engine after I sold it. I hope I was of some help. Good luck.

@@shadygingergarage I am going to fill it up with gas tomorrow in try some Lucas fuel injectors cleaner in see if that helps it like I am going to swap it to a V8 I still need to get a few more parts in I will be able to do it just hard I am on SSDI in it blows but I almost got everything I just never seen anything like that u will be going up the highway in u can notice the little incline in the road I mean the incline get a little steeper as u go up maybe 4 or 5 miles car just drops down until like 30 mph sputtering away get to the top runs fine! Thanks man I am going to try that fuel injectors cleaner in see what happens I never run the car so low on gas I don't let it get past a 1/8 of a tank before I put gas in it might try changing the fuel filter to it seems to me to be a fuel issue but if I run it up a steep street in the city it's fine pulls right up that's what I don't understand I am from, Baltimore, Maryland I keep saying city but that's for your time mine runs just like urs does but those dam long inclines!!
