Helllooo everybody and come along for the ride as I birth the Marquette Golden Eagles program on NCAA 14.
In this episode, the Golden Eagles look to bounce back into the win column after a tough collapse last week where they ultimately fell to #20 West Virginia in overtime for our first loss. After a promising start to the season, junior QB Greg Walker has struggled over the past couple of weeks, and two late interceptions proved to be the demise of Marquette last week.
Now it's a fresh week with a new opponent as Walker and the Golden Eagles now have their sights set on (2-3) Kansas State. Led by longtime coach Bill Snyder, the Wildcats are a solid football team with a talented senior QB in Jesse Ertz. Defensively, the Wildcats are stout with a tremendous group of corners, although senior DE Jordan Willis headlines the defense. Thus, Marquette plans to focus on attacking the inside via the running game as junior RB Dusty Alexander returns after sitting out a few weeks with broken ribs.
The offense needs a boost as the return of Alexander will hopefully provide that. Regardless, Greg Walker needs to get back on the right track and hopefully that can happen as he returns home after a tough game in Morgantown. SPOILER ALERT That is not the case as this game is ALL defense with no score heading into the 4th quarter. Only one team finds the endzone in this affair, who will it be?
Stick around after the game for a recruiting update as Marquette has signed four more players to bring our current class to nine signees as this recruiting class really starts to take shape. However, it's not all good news as one of our top targets commits elsewhere in a disappointing development. Additionally, we'll outline a few in-season additions as our board now has new life with some interesting prospects.
We'll close the episode with an updated look at the Top 25. South Carolina sits at #1 although #25 Tennessee forces them into overtime. Could the Gamecocks withstand an upset bid from the Volunteers and remain atop the polls? The Heisman Watch is still dominated by running backs with Texas A&M's James White leading the way, followed by Ezekiel Elliott.
In the next episode, we'll hop on Interstate 94 West as we're primed for the inaugural War for Wisconsin as we visit the Badgers in Madison. Wisco claims to be our "big brother" as this rivalry has plenty of fuel despite the teams not even matching up yet. Can Marquette go into Camp Randall Stadium and take down the favored Badgers?
