Got 5-7-9m Dice on 20 - 22m lines. I'm 65 Kg (145lbs), Jaime 133 and pro surf 5'8. Conditions: waves, wind 14 - 40 knots (16-45 Mph). I'd like to recommend to try flying smaller kites even in lighter wind once you're riding independently. Then you really learn to position your kite well and use the kite actively instead of becoming a lazy kiter.

Glad you addressed 10m kites while hood river oregon was playing in the background. I'm 215lbs and live 30 minutes from hood river. Taking a class in hoodriver soon but was thinking about grabbing some of these kite deals. And found a 2019 10m rpm that I'm thinking about grabbing for my first kite

i5 riders cheers! I learned to love my 10 there too. That’s awesome you’re taking a class out there. You’re lucky to live so close to such an epic spot. The 10 RPM has been my most used kite this year. It’s fast and fun but actually has some power and range to it. I think the shop has 2019’s on sale right now. The 2018 and older lacked the range. - Rygo

Great video Mac, covers a lot of bases. I'm around 280LB and my quiver is 11m Ozone Hyperlink v2 13m 15m 18m Ozone Chrono v3 My boards range from CARVED custom 139x44 and CARVED 141X43, CORE FUSION 142X42.5, Ozone Torque 138x42. The Torque is my mid to high wind board, and the 44cm wide when it drops a bit. When it really dropsin have a 170x50 Flydoor 5 when mixed with the 18m Chrono3 it goes like shitz, had over 7m on the woo with that setup, quite scary lol

I have found that my 17m kite is absolutely useless in waves where current is strong. It works in flat water or lagoons with no current. Even with opposing wind/current it is an awful kite.

Thanks for the feedback Jimmy! 17m² kites are not great surf kites and relaunching can be a pain. However, they are great for trying to extend your sessions into very light wind. Sometimes a 15m² could be a better option if you are a lighter rider because they will stay in the sky longer. - Cole

Hello. I am 54Kg and 158cm. My main goal is freerider / big air. The average air speed here in Portugal is from 12knots to 18knots. I am about to buy my first kite and have a budget to buy only one at moment. The kite I am looking for is the Duotone Rebel, but I don't know if I buy the 9m or 10m. May you please help me out? Thank you in advance.

160 lbs - 12m in 21 knots wind? ;) i would be carefull about those statements....
@MACkiteboarding
4 ай бұрын
Yeah, I might err on the smaller size of the embedded size chart for this one. 🤙🏽 I always recommend a 10m for a 160lb rider in winds 15-25 mph. In RyGo's defense, he always rides boards with lots of rocker, which like more power. 🤣 Not always for the average Joe. Good catch, my friend. -Aaron

Get confused… My instructor advise me to buy 17m for my 200 lb, does it mean 17 m will be light wind only? Thanks in advance
@MACkiteboarding
3 жыл бұрын
It’s usually a good idea to listen to your instructor. They know your circumstances well. That said at 200 lbs 14m & 17m are common first kites. Many locations are lighter winds. Likely, they are trying to help you maximize your sessions. - Rygo

Hey Rygo! When you are EXACTLY between sizes (e.g. you own 8m and 10m, but it's a perfect 9m day) do you opt for the smaller kite set on more power (knot closest to kite) or the larger kite set on less power (knot furthest from kite). Thanks!

It depends on what I’m doing that day. If waves, I size down. If freestyle and the wind is smooth I may power up. If I’m leaning something, I’ll power down. If I want to stay hooked in and send it, I’ll power up. What are you practicing at the moment? - Rygo

@@MACkiteboarding 2nd year rider. Just happy to stay upwind and send a few small jumps. Even with a 5 kite quiver (19 Contra, 14, 12, 10, 8 Switchblades), I still find myself between kites - like I need a 9 and 11 in particular.
@MACkiteboarding

Wow! You’ve got quite the quiver. Since you are newer and on a Switchblade. Try practicing on the smaller size. You have the right kite for it and while it might be frustrating at first, your skills will improve immensely. It will pay off in droves in a solid season. 🤘🏻💥 - Rygo
