In 1958 the first star of our team had a peanut butter sandwich after weigh-ins and during his bout he threw up on the mat. I wrestled for the team 7 years later and still no one would eat a peanut butter sandwich after weigh-ins. Of course, I stuffed myself with total crap.

I think it depends on what the competition is. If a tournament or multiple matches, you are going to need foods like peanut butter to sustain energy as it has protein, fiber, and fats that are going to cause a slow burn of energy at different rates without a huge spike of energy. If you just do simple carbs you will crash as your body has nothing longer lasting to breakdown into sugars and place into bloodstream. So I don’t think the peanut butter caused your losses JD! 😂

I agree, but btw the protein and fiber from peanut butter aren’t good for energy but the fat is

@@pystykorva9793 yeah good point; protein is not a reliable source of energy unless hitting energy depletion and fiber can't be broken down for energy. I meant they all interact in causing slower spike in blood sugar aka "slow burn of energy." Glad someone else agrees. Just didn't want a mass amount of wrestlers and coaches saying peanut butter is bad!

hmmmmmmmmm i honestly dont think this is a good clip. a lite lof about ten diffferent options for three categories would be good he mentioned simple complex carb and be selective on fluid. no examples

One of the best wrestlers I knew used to carry a bottle of honey in his bag, and after weigh in he'd always eat some honey out of the bottle. That's nearly pure sugar.

Personally the absolute best foods were Most forms of fruit (fresh dehydrated babyfood/applesauce) any jerky grilled chicken grilled fish spinach cucumber shredded mozzeralla pedialite Popsicles and then water/pedalyte to drink

Bring some cold spinach chicken salmon and mozzeralla with some fresh fruit for breakfast and pedyalyte popsicles/apple sauce/jerky/dehydrated mango for between matches
