The best minimalist packing list for the Camino out there. (So many videos with people packing 45 liters worth of wilderness survival gear)

I read on forums men's backpack tend to be heavier, simply because your stuff is bigger! Shoes, shirts, trousers... it all adds up. We also did not have a knife or a guide at the beginning, we bought them on the way - and found a walking stick too! So our backpacks were probably a bit heavier at the end...

Robyn Travis Hi Robyn, the t-shirt is made by Mountain Warehouse (if you go to the video Review of Backpack - kzitem.info/news/bejne/k6R6mYiFjGqllKA&ab_channel=SeeYouSoonMom -, you can find link to most of the products we used). You are going during summer, so expect very high temperature (I just finished my Camino now, in April, and some days we had 25C), lots of people and possibly torrential rain. But weather is a bit crazy lately all around the world, so take this opinion with a grain of salt. :)

Is it necessary to know any Spanish to do the camino, or do most people speak English ???
@trekkingthecamino2334
8 жыл бұрын
+David Jones _ Hey David, we did the French Route last summer and did fine 95% of the time knowing the basics like toilet, bus station, train, food store, BEER/WINE, things like that. An important one is La Quinta which is asking for a bill at a food place - otherwise they wonder around for days it seems. If you ever have to call ahead to secure a room at the next town (we never had to even in the middle of summer) you may want to write down a couple phrases like "no speak espanol 1 room for x people available?" But to answer your first question, you will do fine but not many people speak english - maybe 15%-20% but they know enough and you'll know enough hand language to have a ball and don't stress. Buen Camino

thanks for the informative video. My girlfriend and I are planning to take the pilgrimage (at some point) and we know that packing light is key. You pack really really light. @seeyousoonmom

Grant McNerney Hi Grant!!! hahahahaha Yes, comfort is good, but the back pain is bad. :) We found that it is essential to take into consideration the length of the walk: if you are going to walk the whole 800Km packing light will save you some headache (and backache, feet-ache...), but if you are going for the last 100km, you can afford some luxuries. :) Now I am curious to know, what do you mean by comforts?

Depending on the Camino that you pick (French, Portuguese, Primitive etc) you will have a different starting point. So your first decision is which Camino do you want to do. In regards to money, it will depend on the quantity of days that you're going to walk (are you going to do the whole Camino or only part?). My advice would be decide first what you want to do and, from there, it is easy to get the information you want.

Great video.How long was your Camino? Why I ask is that although packing light is essential, a lot of people do part camino's and minimum packing suits well. Mine next May 4th 2015 will be from SJPDP to Santiago and will start with some cooler days moving into warmer ones. Which mean covering more weather patterns.
@seeyousoonmom

Thank you Craig! We did start from SJPDP and it lasted 30 days (we admit skipping a couple of stretches though!) We started in mid March and from or experience, April was already pretty hot so I think in May you won't need more layers than June... Expect wind and rain as well as scorching hot sun anyway :)

Hi Titus Thunderbird, it is the first time I receive this question. :) I am not sure I am able to help as I've never noticed no one smoking cannabis on the Camino.
