Great video!! Do you find that the "passive/active" toggle on the passive setting creates significant more "hum" than the active? My Boden 8 is this way and ALMOST makes me never use the passive option for heavy tones because I can hear the hum so much. Also, I might have missed it, but which pickups are these? Sounds great!!

Thanks for watching! We really appreciate it! I haven’t encountered a significant amount of hum switching between the two modes or at least enough for me to notice. Is it hum like you hear in a high gain rig even with humbuckers or more like single coil hum? Idk what your rig looks like but it could potentially be a result of the noise gate kicking in differently due to the difference of volumes. The only other thing could be a grounding issue or something with the pickups. These were the stock Fishman moderns.

@@guitarguild7336 I've got the same stock MF's pickups, and yes it's DEFINITELY a noticeable change, even on lighter gain settings or any amp sim/real amp I use. Don't have a problem with coil split but the active/passive switch has significant hum/buzz. Similar to 60hz cycle hum from single coils for sure. Was just curious, I had asked on the Strandberg forum a bit back without luck. I'll have to open her up and see myself then, also I live in the middle of an apartment building, so not sure if its my power/interference with pipes and stuff in the walls. But appreciate it!!

Could you have potentially mixed up which of the toggles are for which. I actually confused the two at first because of how my other guitar with Fishmans is wired. It could be the house causing extra noise. I have a similar issues with noisy electronics in my room. I would reach out to Fishman to see if there is an issue with the pickups. I actually got a defective set from this so it could potentially an issue with the pickups.

Thanks! We used the D’addario NYXL Optimized Tension for Strandberg set which is a custom 9.5-64 set they offer.

@@guitarguild7336 Was the tension good? I heard they're rated 15-19 lbs in standard, so how does it translate?

Are you thinking of using it on a Strandberg or another guitar? They are actually designed to accommodate drop tuning with the thick 7th string. I found them to be PERFECT for drop A but they still do drop G# amazingly compared to most packaged string sets you’ll find. The set still feels amazing and tight but if the scale was a little longer on the low side they would be perfect but not a deal breaker. I wouldn’t really go much thicker than something around 66-68 since the extra mass and thickness starts to add more low end that muddies up the tone with small increases in tension. I usually find going as thin as possible helps, which a longer scale length helps with.

Bro thank you so much, alright I'll be keeping that in mind.

@@guitarguild7336 It's gonna be for the exact same guitar you guys reviewed in this vid. Same tunings, and I might try the 66. I tried a 68 and even then it was getting a little muddy.
