Fantastic and comprehensive PSA! You guys managed to do what few vendors are: make a reference video in which you also advertise your own products without being annoying salesmen. Instead of feeling like the video was made to sell products first, inform potential swappers/customers second or worse; it was 100% the other way around. Cheers and thanks, PBH!

I have a 66 falcon that im building and had originally decided to go, LS, yes i was going to be an LS bro, I love fords but cant beat how the LS can make power in a small package. Ive since changed direction and scored a coyote 5.0. I am currently trimming the shock towers and adding bracing. I made a mock up motor out of thin wood panels. I am able to get 2 inches of clearance on both sides of the valve cover corners and widens back up from there down leaving plenty of room for headers. Have not gotten to the steering column yet. Baby steps.

Definitely good info. My son and I are about to start ordering all the goodies to start building a 23T Bucket kit from Speedway Motors; and so we have something totally different from what you see in the majority of those cars, do a coyote swap. I have a 2013 Ford F150 that may wind up being the donor or we are going to sell it and buy a newer Mustang Coyote and trans out of a wrecking yard with the ECM and wiring harness. The way it looks after watching this video we will mainly need a set of custom made roadster headers. Thanks for what you do!

@@toranowatson7551 hey there, I'll likely be doing a truck motor from a wrecked vehicle. I live in the middle of literally nowhere, and I'll be lucky enough to get my hands on a truck engine lol. Btw, it's not a veritable runner intake, it's a charge motion control valve. It's basically a flap near the intake port that acts a little like a venturi in a carburetor. The idea being to enhance the air charge velocity at low engine speeds to improve combustion and then open the valve at higher engine speed to remove restriction. For an engine swap you can pin the valve open if it's not running an oem ecu and it acts like a normal intake.

The part that really resonated (and reality checked) with me is what you want out of it. Is it a cruiser, car shows, etc? Are you just looking for long distance trips? Gen 1 and Gen 2 are just fine. Jeremy Gattenby I’m in the planning stages for a 69 Restomod build and after tons of research I found it to be just as expensive to put a coyote motor in the car. Both motors would require the same amount of work and are roughly the same cost/ power output. I’d love to have a twin turbo motor in my mustang but at this point I might as well do a coyote swap. With the coyote swap many have done it, many companies have parts for the swap, I can buy a wrecked gt to get many parts I’ll need compared to having to source a 3.5L, manual transmission and all the parts associated. I even have access to below market prices on the parts but it’s still about the same cost either direction. Might as well do a coyote swap then right?

Saw Greater I love the Ecoboost motor. It delivers an amazing amount of torque. It’s light weight, efficient and quiet. Personally I prefer the coyote for a Mustang. It’s a 5.0, it’s got the hp and the muscle car sound. I say go Coyote but honestly, both drive great.

Curious how hard it would be to do this to an 04-08 f150... I love my beat up truck, but the 5.4 3v isn't the most spectacular engine ford made... cam phasers and the 2 piece spark plugs are pitas on the 5.4, I also wonder how hard it would be to get the 10 speed trans under there... reason I keep it, and intend to swap is it was my dads truck, and he is no longer with us, too many memories in that truck to get rid of it and get something "better"
@PowerByTheHourPerformance

Bob, the good news is the coyote will fit right into that truck. Most of the fabrication falls into fuel system, eclectic fan, Driveshaft, and general wiring/plumbing. The bigger hurdle will be the gauges and making them all work. That is something where we need help to come up with a solid solution that is plug and play. I think it can be done but its pretty custom.

I do not think it will be an easy swap. The track width of the newer cars is much wider then the new edge and the pick up points are not anywhere close to the same. It might be best to look at an irs from the cobra and upgrading the front suspension.

I'm curious ... if I did this swap in a newer car, should I be able to retain the cars electronics, like the tach, speedo, etc? I know the FRCP would control the motor, and that I'm unlikely to be able to keep cruise, but what about things like traction control and stuff?
@PowerByTheHourPerformance
5 жыл бұрын
Charles, it would depend on the car. As an example, we have a harness in production that will indeed tie into the oem electronics of a 2005-2009 Mustang Gt and retain the mentioned items. We can do this since the can bus and other modules can speak to each other. Now if you are attempting to do this on a BMW or something like that, the task is a lot larger to take on and you will probably not find a plug and play option for those. Tell us what your building. Maybe we can help you with it.
