Their dominance used to just piss me off. My elderly race buddy told me “Man, bring your best shit to the track and if you don’t win shut the hell up and improve your car, it’s that simple.” He was right and I then respected the hell out of them as they were on top of their game and then some.

Audi going turbodiesel was a ballsy move, considering Diesels weren't used in racing except in very specific cases. The fact that the V12 TDI could rev like a race car engine, and didn't need to rev very high to generate enormous power, was a technical feat that modern Diesels should've taken advantage of. To this day, not even Porsche or Toyota even touch the turbodiesel hybrid performance of the R18, a car so perfectly engineered, it's the easiest race car to drive to date.

The Audi LMP cars were beautiful and brought incredible innovation to the field. I mean who would have thought to do an AWD diesel hybrid. The quick change rear end they did on the R8 was brilliant.

The Bentley win in 2003 counts towards Audi in my book. The Speed 8 was a further developed R8C and the whole team including drivers was also borrowed from Audi.

Does anyone know why the Audi R18 was faster than the Peugeot 908 despite having around 200 hp less (~540 vs ~720)???

GTe is gone though after 2023. Might be a chance of customer Audi GT3´s for the 2024 Le Mans though when GT3 replaces GTE.

Nice Video! But you leave out a lot of Info, also you often talk about dominance where no dominance were shown. Le Mans is very special, and often very small issues decide who wins, no matter who was faster or should have won. Audi did a very good Job all those years, even though often quite lucky. I hope they come back but right now I doubt that.

Good comment Tyler. I agree that a lot has been left out, for instance the circumstances of the 2010 win. And there's very little about the drivers, little even about the great TK. I imagine time constraints are the reason. It's a subject that is little covered on KZitem and deserves several parts. Best wishes from the UK.
