The most awkward experience I ever had watching an anime was when I watched Oreimo with my little sister. She's six years younger than me. We were always close and watched stuff like Naruto, Sailor Moon, Inuyasha, etc. Usually, I would watch all sorts of mainstream anime with her, and we eventually got into obscure stuff on Crunchyroll. Idk how or why we got to that point, but after watching Oreimo together, we didn't make eye contact for about a week after. I was 24 at the time and she was 18. This was prior to me knowing that siscon was a thing in anime. Thank god it wasn't Yosuga no Sora though.

Huh, I guess I'm lucky. I remember back in middle school from somewhere between 2001-2003. The internet was really shitty, but it still more or less worked at school. Adobe flash websites were pretty fun back then, mostly just holding silly flash games hosted on websites, so School computers were like Arcades back then. But some kid got a hold of a geosites address that held anime pin-up pictures, and digital MS paint style Oekaki (お絵描き). You know, the sexy lewd pictures of anime girls? It was mostly just pantyshots. Not many of us knew that those types of pictures were from Japan, but of course us being guys we were all interested, hell I still have some of those pictures on my PC. I'm surprised we were able to get away with it back then, the teachers never caught us looking, but I guess they didn't care so as long as we weren't making too much noise. Nice collection over the decades. I'm old lol.

Yosuga no Sora is my favourite anime. It deals with many complex emotions of the characters and questions the basic human values whether or not they should stop you from loving someone you couldn't help falling in love with. Call me a hentai or whatever I'll defend the anime till death

Back in the Stone Age when I went to school… I loved watching anime, playing video games, playing D&D, watching Star Trek… Next Generation of course… And going to Taekwondo. No one outside of my Taekwondo group knew that side of me because I was a “pretty girl” and I didn’t look like that “type of person.” Well when guys found out that I liked all of that and I opened my mouth to say what games and anime I liked I was labeled as strange or weird. 🤷♀️ Oh well! 🤣

I think a lot of my favorites are older anime movies (like Tenshi no Tamago, the first GITS film, Paprika, and Akira). Although (as far as series go) I do love Arakawa under the Bridge, Canon Busters, and Birdie the Mighty: Decode. Anime was pretty popular in my neighborhood when I was a kid, so I didn't get made fun of a lot. The only people who ever made fun of me for liking it were people at my martial arts school... until they found out that I could draw a lot of their favorite characters, 😆. Then I found out just how many anime fans there actually were. "Hey... um, can you draw a picture of Goku for me? It's for a friend."

Living my childhood and teen years in Chile, and as far as I know, many countries on latinamerica, it wasn't that big deal of a deal saying that you liked anime. The worst that could happen it's that they thing that you're childish cause you still watch cartoons, but most of the time, at least in my experience, what they ask is "what anime fo you like?". And I'm not talking late 2000's when anime was already a thing, I mean 90's to early 2000's. Even now in my mid 30's I found myself talking with people that I just know talking about our favorite shows.

Coming back to the lolita complex topic, and at the risk of sounding racist, why do Japanese girls reinforce that mentality so much? I dunno if this is still a thing, but most Japanese girls are obsessed with cute things, foreigners called this _"Kawaii Culture"_ where everything has to be cute to a Japanese girl, and if it's not cute, it's not worth talking about. And it effects from their clothes, to their rooms, the way they talk, with a way they style their in pony-tails or twin-tails, pastel make-up, even to effect their jobs to advertise for cafes. Every girl working in Akihabara is like that. I've seen the damn walk-through videos! Like some Japanese girls that are clearly adults in their 20's or 30's still wanna act like school girls/kids. _(Then again I hear that some Japanese guys at that age still live with their parents too, nearly acting just as spoiled.)_ I thought it was just because the Sailor uniform was such a big fetish in Japan over the years, but I think it's more than that now, that girls wanna retain their youth. So it looks like Japanese girls just enforce this Lolita complex, especially the ones that never age. What is it with Japan and the fountain of youth? Women in their 50's look 20, and girls in their 20's look 12. Do you know how hard it is for foreigners to determine Japanese people's ages? Fuckin' answer this question.... _Ku-da-sai._
@Snzn18

Its simply a cultural thing and from a different point of view my guy. Like how you misjudge a japanese or Asian people's age by judging their looks. From an asian pov. Western people my might just as misjudge a teen western person as a person in their twenties. For moat asian countries they mostly look back at their high school and mid school days as the most fun part of life as that is the time they consider that they had the most freedom to do things and let loose. As for western culture, like how most media portrays it. Mid school and high school are more of a shit show and college life is the one portrayed as the most fun and what not. Also you can just type your question and can get immediate answers you know. Its easier that way and you can read more other peoples perspective on the topic. Like also with the lolita thing, I think its also quite dominant in the west as its like not that uncommon nowadays for young girls to sell lewd pics in messaging apps if I'm noy wrong. Also South east asia are a hotspot for exploiting young girls for those kind of criminal sex trade things, but most of the costumers that are caught are mostly western people. Shits just complicated with that kind of stuff and its just not so black and white. Also Asian culture in general has a strong family bond relationship, so its still common that you live with your parents in your 20's to 30's specially if your single. But just because you still live with your parents that you won't work, lol. In most cases you will still have a job and make money of your own, because its more cost efficient if you have a place to go home to rather than pay a pricey rent. And since you make money too, of course you will pitch in with the bills and other necessities. In asia if you get big, learn how to share some for your family too.

In my time yes, if you liked anime you could be bully hardcore. but right now anime is mainstream and people dont really give a fuck, in my time if you sayied to a girl that you liked anime, it was over right there. Today? they dont give a fuck, they will not watch it with you but they dont care. like my wife. I tryied to haver watch Koe No Katachi and she could not end it because it was too sad for her. kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk She is like lets watch a romantic comedy on netflix, and i say we could watch Toradora and she is like... nah, but i'm like but has emotion is funny and the end will make you cry, she is like... Arlindo is too much i dont want to literaly cry like that time We watched full metal alchemist and that little girl and the dog, Anime is too much. LOL She tryied to watch madoka magica and... BRUH, when people started to get killed she was like, Yeah... i just can't you are killing little girls what the fuck is this?
