It's nice to see women get the recognition they deserve in such a male dominated industry. I had no idea so many women were picking up guitar, but the more players and builders out there, the better. I hope we can grow the guitar community to be more inclusive because you never know who is going to create something truly inspiring that can benefit all of us.

The reason so little women within pedal building and music in general is shit like this comment section. the reaction to the pussy melter pedal, the changing of the name of gearslutz, casual misogyny and objectification when discussing music and finally the reactions to this video perfectly exemplify why more women don't engage. We create such a toxic, uninviting envoirment (which is quite ironic given the amount of inclusivity we claim to perpetuate. When people ask "why is does the music scene not have more women in it" and in the same breath say "WeLL ThE BiG MUff Has BEen ArOuND fOR YEars" in response to people saying they felt hurt by the name of a pedal and what it implicates, it just shows how far in the stone age we are as a community. Great work reverb and thanks to all the builders for not only inspiring great art through their products but also propelling the art of pedal making itself, you have all made fantastic work.

It puts me off that "white dudes" are getting written off pretty much right at the start of the video, when in fact, many many many pedal designs came from Japan. Which is ironic considering the last couple of weeks. When you try too hard to be inclusive, you go all the way around and end up being exclusive instead. I hope the Pedal Movie doesn't pander too much, because I've been looking forward to it, but when Mike Matthews happens to be a "white dude" and that's apparently grounds for being more or less disparaged as just another face in a crowd, I'm finding myself somewhat skeptical now. I promise, a lot of us "white guys" are thrilled when we meet women who share our interests. And just because MTV has a history of excluding artists of color, and your uncle's southern dad rock band likes to do bad Ted Nugent covers, doesn't mean a good portion of us don't admire the likes of Hendrix, Leadbelly, Skip James, Muddy Waters, BB King... There's no need to keep hammering this "all white men" narrative. inb4 "sAyS tHe WhItE mAn"

I hope the makers of the film were able to find space for at least a few moments for Steve Daniels. Steve is the owner of Small Bear Electronics, which has been providing hard to find components to all these boutique builders, of every sex, for close to 2 decades. If you cherish your germanium fuzz, chances are whoever made it got those transistors from Steve. But apart from that, kudos for including the material and people profiled here. And a request to people on forums: PLEASE try to make your language and content less of a deterrent to female members. If you wouldn't put that stuff on your desk at work, then it doesn't belong on a forum.

I don't think this had anything to do with saying folks should buy pedals just because the company is run by women. Seems more like a discussion of what these builders see as a shift inside the gear building industry. It's their word as people in the industry vs many of yours who don't have the same experiences they have had. For instance, if you are a woman who slung pedals at namm booths and to dealers in the 90s-2010s and never had a problem, you'd have a point to make.

The thing is...the point of this video is but a small one. Sexism is hardly an issue in music if talent is nurtured and shoved down people’s ear canals. Can a woman buy a musical instrument? Can she learn it? Can she nurture her talent? Can she write undeniably impressive material? Yes, all around. I can’t imagine many a male guitar player is going to throw out their pedal after watching this video. I can’t imagine many a guitar player is checking to see what sex their pedal builder or pedal designer was before purchasing.

Pretty much all pedals are derivative, with notable exceptions few and far between. "Stolen" is a pretty harsh word to use when EHX makes Klons and Tube Screamers, Boss makes Marshall Bluesbreakers, and every boutique builder ever has at least one version of a Big Muff. Josh is pretty open about where his designs come from. When you're buying a JHS pedal, you're buying a handmade pedal in a configuration and with features that you dig.
