Our New Mexico journey continued from Deming to Las Cruces, which turned out to be the former stomping ground of a certain William Bonney, better known as Billy the Kid. This 1880s outlaw has left a multi-colored legacy in the region, including the super-cute village of Mesilla, where he was put on trial. And we could see Mesilla from our superb RV site in the Las Cruces KOA Journey campground, with a lofty view of the 20-mile extent of the Organ Mountains and their 9,000-ft peaks. Here, on the edge of the Chihuahuan Desert, we marveled at the food, the culture and the friendliness of the locals as we reached the seven-month point of our epic "A Year On The Road" RV voyage.
