Johnny Crowley I have told the manufacturer about this many times. Now about a earphone. This radio has a Kenwood connector. One part is speaker and the other is microphone. I’m seem to remember the earphone part is smaller probably 2.5 mm instead of 3.5 mm we are used to. 2.5 mm is used in America and you may be able to get some headphones with a volume control on them. When I assign a colour code, a talk group ID and a time slot to my channel, I don't want my conservation to be eavesdropped by others and I want to kind of "partition" my users from different users. Now many DMR radios have promiscuous mode and can be used as a scanner. That's a shame.

Yes I see your point. But amateur radio is is in the public domain and and messages cannot be secret. Just like you can listen in on FM. Thanks for watching
@galax574
4 жыл бұрын
@@digitalanalogueham There is a difference between encryption and privacy. Just because encryption cannot be applied in HAM operation doesn't mean privacy of my conversation is compromised. Radios are radios and scanners are scanners. If you set up a scanner/receiver to eavesdrop my conversation, I have nothing to say and nothing to do. But if you use an ordinary DMR radio to scan through all IDs, CCs and TSs and finally find me, I don't think it is decent. The aim of setting up time slots, colour codes and talkgroup IDs is to kind of "partition" my users from different users, just like the use of CTCSS/DCS in FM. Now with a cheap Chinese radio, you can actually listen to conversation with each and every combination of those settings. If HAM operation is gonna lose privacy, or the messages cannot be secret, HAM radios (DMR radios) should only have All Call and one single colour code.
