In 2020 Epiphone updated their line to be “inspired by Gibson.” That means that now you can get Epiphone versions of all these Gibson guitars. Not wanting to spend 3k on a guitar, I recently picked up an Epiphone Les Paul Modern which retails for 650. It’s great! A really solid players guitar, and looks good too. So, whatever you liked in this video you can find an Epiphone version that’s going to be right around your $500 budget. I’m some cases it will even be less.

“Which we invented”… referring to the hum bucker. I’m pretty sure Gretsch designed the filtertron (a type of humbucker) before Gibson did but Gibson got the patent approved for the PAF before Gretsch got their patent approved

Hey Marty, great vid and I can see you really enjoyed yourself there. Couple of years ago I got caught up on the internet with all the negative reviews and opinions on Gibson. Took me a while but I went into a store in Sydney australia last year and played the Gibson LP Studio in Smokehouse. I bought it and I walked out of the store not intending to buy one. Then 2 months ago, I got the LP Standard in Heriage Cherry. OMG, unbelievable. Even these 2 sound different, but killer. Love em and will never part with the. Keep up the good work Marty and happy new year to everyone!

In 1970 I took my friend Glenn to New York city with $500 to get a new guitar. Down to 48th st. Manny's, Sam Ash, and 2 or 3 other guitar stores in the same block. A few hours later we headed home with a new Les Paul Custom. $435 with a non Gibson case.. A beautiful black with gold hardware. He loved and played that guitar for the rest of his life.

I was playing with the idea of getting a Gibson LP of some description. But after a Casino Gold Gretsch Jet Electromatic BT popped up on my phone, I had to look at the details. At under £500 it is an absolute steal! Although made in China the cobstruction & finish is flawless. I ordered one a few months ago and havnt regretted it. Plays through my valve Blackstar head + 12" cab & valve Marshall DSL5 beautifully, & IMO the Gretsch Jet is better proportioned & looks better. Bottom line is..what the hell are you getting for nearly a £1000 more?? Oh, I can afford an LP.

Not sure why he said the 335 tops are book matched unless maybe that was something they were doing in their early 2000s era. I have 21 flame maple that is clearly 1 piece (across,it’s obviously 3 ply like all of them). Watching the tour videos for the 335 you can clearly see that it’s 3 sheets that are whole, not bookmatched. They’re so thin I can’t imagine trying to book match.

Some great guitars. Roughly 10 years ago I bought a new Les Paul Standard, I love it. At the time they had the Studio version in a gorgeous root beer color that I now wish I would have bought instead. At the time I didn't realize that the Studio was the same basic guitar, just not as fancy. I would have chosen the root beer had I known. I love my Gibson, but I also love my American Strat, too, for different sounds.
