In this video, I talk about nibs. Fine nibs, medium nibs, bold nibs, flex nibs. And I talk about some pens as I try to answer many of the questions that keep coming back to me. Questions that you ask. Questions that you seek answers to.
I show Click Aristocrats, Pilots with BB nibs, a Kanwrite with a flex nib, a Kaweco and even a Sulekha pen, not following any particular order, but just by randomly picking up the pens that were there on my table as I was shooting this video. The idea was to try and address some of the issues raised by you, that too with a pen in the hand, to talk to you and intersperse (I won’t use the term illustrate, I believe that I am not good enough) the monologue with a few written words here and a sketch there.
I have tried to keep the answers simple - to the extent of erring on the side of oversimplification and I am tendering my apologies upfront. I have deliberately sought to avoid going into the depths as most of the questions that are raised come from people who are either new to the hobby or are new users of fountain pens. Seasoned writers and expert users, please excuse.
In hindsight it seems that this video has become too long, the monologue perhaps just a shade too boring and that by mixing different issues together I have added to the woes of the viewers. But trust me, some of you have asked all the questions and I had initially thought that it would be prudent to address the issues together. Do let me know your thoughts on this so that I can mould future videos accordingly.
Incidentally, for those who asked, it is a Sulekha notebook from the Jamini Roy series that I am using. As you can see, the paper is fountain pen friendly and it neither ghosts nor does the ink sip through to the other end. And no, there is no blotching or bleeding of the ink. The paper behaves pretty decently will all kinds of nibs, holding on to its reputation even with the flex nibs which require some pressure to be exerted to make the tines spread for the desired line variations.
