Hello Jordan, love to see your contents again! I got a blue belt just in February, it means that I follow your channel since I was a white belt. Blue belt blues is real, but I think in analogy that, okay, in a university called jiu-jitsu, I become just a sophomore and I have to study hard to pass junior and senior year before I become a bachelor. It had been an extremely difficult year for many reasons. That night was my first night back after having been stuck in isolation due to covid exposure. While our household was in lockdown, we missed out on (arguably the biggest) grading night ever; heartbreaking not getting to be there for all my friends and training partners and celebrate in accomplishments. Jordans got a heart of gold and this video's message speaks to it. He made sure that while we missed out on the grading night, he would make this something special. And did he ever. We'd been talking lots back and forth for months of a commentary roll video and that night he asked me if I was down for it/ready. This is the result. The highlight of my year.

Oh my heart! What a sweet way to give Brad his blue belt! Thank you for the great channel, it felt great seeing it grow from a few hundred people to over 40K! Much deserved success. As a 3 stripe white belt, my biggest achievement in BJJ in 2021 was finally truly internalizing that belts and winning rounds don't really matter at this point. I started to work on concepts and trying to learn good behaviours, retain guard, improve my position, slow down, make sure I have control first instead of trying to go fast and go for submissions. Funny enough the % of successful sweeps and attacks went up as a byproduct of focusing on good habits and positioning. I would just find myself in a better spot more often to try things.

Dude….that was awesome! I can tell you are a great teacher. I did BJJ for one year and my coach was some midget Mexican guy with a small guy complex. He would coach against me and not help me when going against other belts. Sometimes, we’d do stand up sparring, just punches, and when I’d start tagging him since I was much bigger, longer and stronger than he was then, he’d say it was ok to throw kicks. Then I’d start throwing kicks and getting him there too, then he’d say it was ok for takedowns and submit me. He hated being outshined not that I was trying to but he said he had some amateur MMA fights so I thought he should’ve been better than me, turns out he was just a sore loser. I also wasn’t in any of his cliques so I wouldn’t go to his apartment with his BJJ bros to watch UFC or go drink beer with them so I probably counted myself out. Shortly after, I got tired of his Macho ways and left. About a year or so later, more people left his gym too and his brother in law who was really good (purple belt) left the gym to open his own gym and everyone left and went there. The midget got mad and said he had to send everyone back because he “stole” everyone?!?! Not sure what happened after that but it turned me away from BJJ. Had I of had a coach like this guy, I would definitely be a black belt by now.

Watching this video I was like...Brad looks pretty good to still be a white belt. Yeah, he's getting worked over but that just shows the class of a black belt so it was cool to see him get promoted in the end. I started and still train with my son and he's a blue belt too so lucky us.

After watching this video i had to subscribe. Having great mentors is what this sport is all about. My son and I just recently joined our local jiu jitsu school and we’re enjoying this journey together. Thanks and keep up the great work.

Hey man, thank you for the sub! I absolutely agree, having someone you feel comfortable training with is a must... And it's so wonderful that you and your son started training together. Best of luck to you too! 👊

My son and i started BJJ together last March and he has won a gold and a bronze. He loves your videos and made a small contribution to the "ultimate self defense championship 2" knowing that you will be part of it! We can't wait to see you win the championship in the show!

Love your videos. I started training when I was 67 years old. I have to compensate for my physical deficiencies. Your teaching really helps. Best of luck on the channel.

I started bjj about 3 1/2 months ago and I’m obsessed!!! I have my daughters doing it with me as well! I get overwhelmed with all the information and just try and remember it’s not a race, but a journey. It’s such a beautiful martial art. Thank you for sharing :) made me teary eyed. Congratulations guys!!!

I can't stress the greatness of having the opportunity to train with both of my children. You will grow a bond with your daughters like no other. Enjoy the journey, experience or whatever moniker you apply to the lifestyle of practicing jiu-jitsu. Brad

Wow. That grab leg before rolling over into armbar was great. Sure I've seen and heard similar things, but this time it feels I might be ready to understand. Thanks sensei.
