If you find this offensive or rude in any way, I do apologize sincerely: I'm just sharing some of my life. Throughout middle school, I had seen people with braids, twists, etc. I loved these hairstyles but when I braided my hair (dutch braids) or used twists even in my dolls hair, I felt like people were going to scream at me for liking the hairstyle. I understand you like this hairstyle but just remember you can't make anyone like it. If you are mentioning insecurities, don't make other people give you insecurities about what you use; don't make people like your hair or hate it. [BTW, this came from a caucasian]

There is so many things wrong with what you said. We black men and women are not insecure about other people wearing box braids or other style of braids we wear. It’s the double standard that we have an issue with. It’s acceptable and fashionable when people who look like you wear it but we are treated like shit and it’s unacceptable to wear when at school, work or other places. Stop thinking of only yourself and being condescending and understand the struggle black men and women go through on a daily basis just being who we are as a black person.

This is the thing, until Black people, until Black Children can wear their own hair, or when a Federal Crown Act passes, when schools and business stop calling our hair unkept, messy, until we can wear it without putting on wigs to make you comfortable, or cutting it to perform sports, etc. because a lot of you are still intimidated by Black Peoples hair, when we can wear our hair and it’s not worn by other cultures as a party outfit and they take it off the next day and go to their professional meetings or business meanwhile you removed the hair because you yourself believe what society says about it, Our hair is not a costume, we wear it out of necessity, you want to wear it for cool points see, when you have no empathy on how Black Women were treated because of their hair, the legislation passed to cover it, shaving our heads and putting our hair in your furniture, or setting our hair on fire for night torches, while it was still on our heads etc. you can’t give us any of that back, but you can leave our hair alone and I myself don’t understand how none of you understand or maybe you just don’t care, and that would be vintage your people. Do a little research before you asked questions you’re using sarcasm for.

Although I do not agree with the way this video is worded, and I do understand why you're upset. You feel it unfair to have something, that historically, has gotten you harassed, and mercilessly ridiculed. That is not fair to you and is sickening to me as well. But as we move forward to the future, do you think you could accept people wearing typically black hair styles because they think they look nice? To have something that had been ridiculed for years turn into something many people can appreciate? It sounds like a pretty good rags to riches story to me! And while I do not deny that this harassment does not go on now, but how would you feel if society slowly started to integrate typically black hairstyles into common place?

As an African American, I personally don’t care what you do with your hair. It’s hair. Wanna try new cultures? Go for it! It’s your hair and it’s beautiful. It’s just that, people don’t want for you to mock other cultures. And if you’re not then you’re fine and people really won’t care. It’s not what you look like, it’s how you react to how you look like . For example: If you were to go out in public and then be like what up my 🥷 to some random black person, that’s not right and that’s where all the confusion is. People don’t care that your wearing it. It’s people that are scared of what your acting like while you are wearing it. You are beautiful and you know it. Don’t let anybody take that away from you. Please, REMEBER this. It will help you. 🫶🏾

We’d go to a neighborhood cookout there would be every race at the cookout cause everyone was just chill with each other but it’s mostly the fact more people are racist nowadays and don’t realize it but it’s mainly knowing the culture, my siblings didn’t give a flying fuck if a white person wore box braids bc their hair would fall out anyway if it wasn’t the right hair type FOR box braids. If you knew the history then you have your answer. You have literally a million types of hairstyles you can easily do with your type of hair. Having black hair is NOT easy. There’s a very limited amount of things you can do with black hair, and what you can do takes a ton of work which in return has created a beautiful culture around it. Box braids was a unique style to show off the beauty of black hair and black women. Out of all the hairstyles you could’ve chosen. This is the one you chose. Please pull your head out of your rear end and use your head. Stop being ignorant.

Its just because box braids are meant to be a protective hair style made for CURLY HAIR but if a white person who has straight hair does it then it wont be good it’s not a good hairstyle for straight hair since the braids are done tight so straight hair can’t handle it and it ends up falling out and therefore it’s meant for curly hair xx

Just shows that she doesn’t know the “history behind box braids” cause those aren’t even box braids there plats. And we aren’t saying that all types of braids are meant for us because there are types of braid styles that you guys can use (such as French braids and etc.) What is not ok is when y’all claim to know our culture and our history when y’all can care less. I grew up in a mixed family. I don’t understand why people are mad. Unless it’s Africans getting mad at Americans (black Americans too) for “cultural appropriation” In Africa, black Americans are still called Americans. I don’t believe I can call someone “African-American” unless they have moved from Africa to America. That’s like a German moving to America, they would be German-American. But after generations of the cultural pot mixing, you are just American. No matter what color you are by then. So in conclusion, I DONNOT care as long as you are not being racist. the invention of wigs by Egyptian royalty and while this was around 2700 BCE, a white man in 1870’s also invented a front lace wig used to cover up baldness while still having a natural look of hair. although Egyptians (egyptians came in many shades of brown and white a lot like southern or coastal european countries or western asian countries like india) were the first to come up the idea of wigs a white man was the first to come up with lace front wigs. i would give both ethnicities credit for their inventions especially on how big of the impact it has on everyday modern life. not only did women take this invention but so did african americans in the 1900’s. i hope you know that i am not coming for anyone and that i understand why black women adopted this invention because of the troubles they faced because of their skin color or hair type. but we have to understand that our world has been around for a very long time and that every culture and religion has been robbed of the owner ship of an idea or object. i think that anyone and everyone should be able to do what they want as long as they know the history of it and that it won’t effect that person health negatively like women with straight hair that get box braids. i think that it is time to just appreciate everyone and everyone’s culture and learn how to be respectful and open to other people appreciating it.

@@kylie3989 I do not take your comment as you coming for me, but I will urge you to do more research before regurgitating the lies you’ve been fed! First and foremost ANCIENT EGYPTIANS were different shades of BLACK, Not White! The Egyptians that occupy modern day Egypt ARE NOT the original people! They’re of Arab & European decent. The ORIGINAL Arabs are BLACK, not this whited out version you see on TV, but dark black. Europeans have spent thousands of years RAPING and pillaging everywhere they went.. emphasis on RAPING! It is what they did in the Americas with the NATIVE BLACK people that were there, what they did to the Mexicans in Mexico, what they did to the Aboriginals in Australia, same thing in Brazil, Puerto Rico, Cuba, DR,.. you get the point ( they didn’t get everyone everywhere they went, although they surely tried)! Besides even if a “WHITE MAN” created the first lace front, wigs were invented by BLACK EGYPTIANS! He didn’t invent Jack.. what he did was modified someone else’s idea/invention per usual practice of Europeans. So again I reiterate, name ONE thing that has been created/invented (NOT STOLEN OR MODIFIED which is modern terms for raping and pillaging) by White people that has been adopted by other cultures/races??? @@kylie3989 Oh and BTW the reason why Black women had so many issues in this country regarding our hair wasn’t because all of us couldn’t grow it… it was because everything that was out on the market was for White women, and if you know anything about hair, you’d know that for a Black woman to use products meant for White women destroys our hair! Plus we were forced to fry and dye our hair with chemicals and extreme heat just to be able to compete for jobs to support our families.. plus to try to fit in with our European counterparts to avoid the taunting. From slavery we were taught to be ashamed of our skin color as well as our NATURAL hair! Thankfully, a lot of us are removing that shame and are accepting OUR NATURAL BEAUTY! There isn’t a problem when a white person braids their hair. However, those aren’t box braids. Also, you don’t put them in the same way and if you did your hair will fall out. Do what ever you want with YOUR HAIR but don’t get confused with black hair styles.

The reason why black women say it’s disrespectful because your people back in the 1700s en forced the tigon law and this law forced black women to wear hair scarves because of our Beautiful unique hairstyles were considered a threat to your people so that’s why it’s so offensive.

Just because you're a black doesn't mean you know me better. Let me explain something to you because you're probably Young. I find myself having to explain this to very young black people on the constant basis comma because you guys have absolutely no idea about the black American culture going back past 15 years ago.. These grades are very important to black women and it means something to them. It is a hair identity that is close to their core identity as a black person, since you said you are one🤔🤔 You should know that. Black people's culture have been usurped. over 100 years.. Right now, white people are getting their panties in a bunch because of a little black actress playing The Little Mermaid, they feel offended. They don't want a black actor playing a beloved white character. We gave them our rock and roll music and other things that belong to us things that they like in find cool. Black people accepted like you.. they're up in arms about black actors playing characters in Hollywood

Listen Girl- your hair is very different. As a BLACK PERSON FROM NIGERIA I have to say your hair is not like is black people’s, my hair type is 4C and even if all other black people don’t have that our hair is curly it needs care more care than you guys hair and i’m not saying don’t take care of your hair but those braids you just don’t need you hair is very thin and your hair can fall out because if those braids so don’t go around showing how you did your own braids and how people shouldn’t judge because they obviously are that’s just is you Americans do. And I see all of these white people getting braids and next thing you know they are bald. Just don’t do this please.

It only really happens when they add a lot of hair + tension. Plus I think that any person (any race) with type 3 hair, maybe at least 2c would be okay. Type 1 hair tends to be fragile just as 4c hair is fragile, just in different ways.
@vkhxil

@@darnyoumadedropmycroissant7418you’re really sitting here yapping, black hair is MEANT for braids. So not it’s not fragile in different ways unless it’s damaged. But even then braids or ANY protective black hairstyle would probably be a solution for that, after it’s been washed, detangled, and trimmed. Black men and women have been thrown out of the work place, not able to go to school to LEARN, called ghetto, ugly, ratchet, so many horrible things. Ya’ll white people sit here and constantly criticize us but then take our art and run with it as if we weren’t KILLED in the past for it. Ya’ll sit here online, even BOLDY in public talk about us. But then take our stuff, make it a "trend" & then claim it as yours. If you were disrespected in the past like us all because of your SKIN, and used protective hairstyles to keep your hair okay would you want someone taking it? NO, and vikings did NOT wear black hairstyles. And it’s sad, because at this point my OWN people are trying to speak on behalf of the whole black community saying that this is okay. It really isn’t, ya’ll want something so bad get something of your own culture. MAKE something, instead of taking others. It’s sad at this point. And you know what, coming from a 12 year old that says a lot about today.
