Severe Thunderstorms moved through the Woodland Edge, Lighting Strikes took down two trees my cameras were mounted on, and strong Winds took down the third. Fortunately, none of my trail cameras were not damaged. My Browning Spec Ops H4 trail camera’s mount was broken off, but I was able to repair it with Super Glue and JB Weld.
In this video you’ll see a good amount White-tailed Deer footage, footage of the resident Red Fox pair, the two year old Red Fox Vixen Jolene, Jolene’s Red Fox Dog, Raccoons, Opossums, Eastern Gray Squirrels, American Crows, Turkey Vultures and more.
There are five young White-tailed Deer Bucks that have joined the herd, the adopted Buck Olives is sporting a set of antlers now and he has four points. He seems of have found a girlfriend, so perhaps we’ll see his offspring come Spring 2025?
The resident Red Foxes are doing well, and at this point I have identified four Kits, however, I’m not sure if they are from the resident Foxes or if they’re Jolene’s Kits. The Kits have been observed by themselves and aren’t with their parents… both the resident Red Fox pair and Jolene and her Dog are always around, but it’s not clear who belongs to who. It a very new experience to observe and study the two pair of adult Red Foxes sharing a territory… behavior that is so out of the norm. I believe this is Suburban Wildlife adopting new habits to coexist in their ever shrinking world, with so much of their habitat being lost in New Jersey to land development. In the wild, Red Foxes have overlapping territories and hunting grounds, but don’t tolerate other Foxes within their territory, especially during the matting and breading season and defiantly don’t tolerate other Foxes anywhere near their Kits.
The resident Fox Pair have always tolerated Jolene (a Vixen offspring of theirs), and Jolene help her mother raise her Kits from last years. Now Jolene has her mate, and the resident Fox are allowing them to share their territory… and the resident Dog and Jolene’s Dog, actually hunt together and patrol their shared territory. This is very unusually, and it’s so very fascinating to have to privilege to study! I’m really excited to see how this unite progresses.
As usually, all footage of Birds and Wildlife are made up from video clips from my trail cameras used in my Suburban Wildlife Research Project.
I’m currently studying wildlife forced into suburban properties by New Jersey’s urban sprawl and wildlife habitat destruction.
Blessings and best wishes to all. Be safe and healthy. Aho!
