The beginning of the Slide It In Tour had David Coverdale, Neil Murray, Cozy Powell, Mel Galley, John Sykes and Jon Lord all together. Amazing! I have two bootlegs from this tour and they were incredibly tight. Jon's Hammond in Love Ain't No Stranger gave the song a totally different power.

David Coverdale, just what a band needs as a frontman. A lot of confidence, a bit of arrogance, swagger.pose, good looks, and a great voice. As good as Roger Daltrey if not better. People compare him to Plant but he was always streets ahead of him.

of course miscompared with Plant...different songs/different voices. Both are on my taste...if DC was streets ahead of him, Plant gets on stairway above him.

+Hutch Hub Totally agree, John had, has it all, a complete rock star, pity Coverdale sacked him before he got to tour on the 1987 album tour when Whitesnake broke the USA, thats why he is not a household name

Every American girl I knew back in the 80's knew who John Sykes was and that was the problem with Sykes. He had the hair, face and bod of a runway model. The best teeth I've ever seen on an Englishman. He was a good lead and backup singer. Penned or helped pen most of the songs on the 80's Whitesnake album and is an exceptional guitar player. He was the total package and every alpha male frontman's nightmare. And he knew it. Enough so that he was ready to go on without Coverdale who's sinus infection and recovery put the whole works on hold. When your younger hotter and better guitar player starts making such noise, he's gotta go!

Mel Galley was the most underappreciated guitar player of all time for the most underappreciated great band of all time, Trapeze. This version of Whitesnake was the real deal before Coverdale fired everybody and turned it into an MTV poser band, with new versions of their hit songs with Mel Galley's riffs. He got no royalties for them.
@MrCoverdalehughes

Had the worst luck out of any rock&roll musician. He was the boss of Trapeze. Deep Purple steals Glenn Hughes from his band in '73, he still rolls with the punches, no grudges. Dave Holland joins Judas Priest, he still rolls on with Trapeze for a couple more years and has to become an "employee" of another rock band joining musicians like Jon Lord who was in Deep purple who convinced Hughes to leave and join them, no grudges--total professional. Has an accident with his arm and a botched surgery. Still tries to keep active in spite of all the bad luck and then esophagus cancer in 2008....I heard he was a really great and nice guy. Never heard a bad thing about him.
