Indeed, here in Italy there's always something mystic about the figure of Baggio. Despite the injures that hindered somehow his career, he manage to be among the gods in the pantheon of football. @@marcobreda5107 It’s not “hands down”. He’s probably the most gifted Italian of all time- only Meazza could rival him but we simply don’t have enough footage to make a good comparison. But he shone at the highest level for only about half a decade, then injuries and the backwardness of his contemporary managers snuffed him out. Baggio simply doesn’t have the consistent presence” that other equally gifted icons like Messi Pelé, Cruyff, Maradona etc had. Rivera was less gifted slightly, but he was consistently world class for almost 20 years. 2 CL’s, 2 Cup Winners Cups, 3 leagues, 1 Euro with Italy, 1 World Cup silver medal. Arguably best passer ever. One of the brightest young talents ever. And of course you have Maldini and Baresi. Decades long consistency, easily the most talented defenders ever, built arguably the greatest club empire of all time, reached a World Cup final (nearly 2 back to back). Meanwhile Meazza has a very strong case all on his own. Baggio is a solid choice, but it’s insulting to the others to say it’s hands down.

@@hitthurdeaux baggio isn’t consistent.. He had to deal with injuries since young age.. He played with 1 knee since 18 yo.. And played with no knees when reaching 30’s.. And still he could manage thousand magical moments.. Imagine being 18 yo got 200 stitches surgery to one of your knees, and knowing if you continue to play, you will rely only on 1 healthy knee, only baggio can pull of that, beside R9
@hitthurdeaux
Жыл бұрын
@@hendipray1016 Baggio unfortunately missed many, many games in his career due to niggling short term or medium-term injuries. This eventually led to his removal from the spotlight- Juve management wanted him to take an absurd 50% pay cut as they chose to bet on Alex’s youth and talent, and at Milan Capello and Sacchi simply didn’t trust him to be a consistently season-long starting player to build their teams off of (Sacchi obviously also had a personal issue with him as did Lippi). All of this was due to his injuries. Compare that to the pantheon of icons- none of Messi, Pele, Cruyff, Puskas, etc were so hampered by injuries like that. It has a negative impact in a player’s performances and presence. Yes the fact that Baggio *still* overcame all of this to become the best player of the 90s is remarkable and a testament to his unrivaled mental fortitude, but the reality is he just isn’t as great as he could’ve been (the greatest ever) and a large part of that is due to his knees.
