Wait, the R5 was released in 2020. ;) There are amazing photographers still shooting DSLRs (Annie Leibovitz and her 5D Mark Ii and D810). No eye tracking, no problem. I feel like certain popular KZitemrs (and heavy marketing by manufacturers) give everyone the impression that you absolutely need the latest mirrorless cameras to even get an image in focus. ;)

Wholeheartedly agree with this. I used the 5D mark II for sooooo long then the mark III, IV and so on. Wonderful cameras

Completely different era and style of photography, though. Annie has earned the luxury of having about as much time to make a single photograph as is possible -- and she doesn't photograph moving subjects much these days, let alone within a 20 minute time frame on a 30-40 shot commercial shoot day. And have her clients *ever* asked for a GIF? Funny to think about. The rest of us can't afford to miss focus on a commercial set. Today, DSLR shooters are truly outliers -- I know a few who use a Pentax and make breathtaking work, sure. Everyone else is feeling the crunch of overstuffed shot lists and creative briefs, so a speedy camera is the only way. I use a GFX for still life -- but if there's fast-moving talent, GIF requirements, or both, often renting an R5 is the move.

also underrated is how easy + affordable it is to rent canon kit / accessories if you're in a pinch or something breaks. Every rental house has a profoto canon ttl remote or specialty lenses, but not the same can be said of other brands

12 years shooting exclusively canon for photos so far. Very reliable. Have shot with other cameras for video. Sony, blackmagic, Panasonic. Never had a single issue with any other brands either. Curious if there is a reliability issue with any brand? Or if they are all solid now days.

I started photography on a Canon AE1, messed with Nikon, then eventually a 5Diii, over to Fuji, back to a 1DXii, then to an XT3 then I picked up a cheap 5Dii and loved Canon so much I finally ended up getting a R5C. I couldn't be happier with the choice. I was considering saving some $$ and going with a second hand R5 esp with the IBIS and less expensive but I wanted a camera I could grow into and I liked some of the features the R5c brought to the table. I wanted something more in resolution for photography than the XT3 and back to Full Frame. I wanted video features that could grow into as well. There are some short comings of the R5c that eh are sometimes a turn off however I just LOVE the image quality that comes out of the camera both video and stills. The resolution is a perfect sweet spot for me that 45mp is just great and Editing the XF-AVC 4k is truly a breeze. This is a camera I will sure keep for quite some time.

I've had the R5 since it came out, and it never overheated even once. I love the AF and how fast it is, probably the only downside is the wobbles in video on the wide end but I learned how to deal with it.
