My friend Edwin and I are both counter punchers. Every time we spar, it can look boring on the outside because we're both super defensive with each other. Once in a while, I'll start the offense and pay dearly, lol. I'm sure he has a similar experience.

Something you can implement right away. Relax... and observe your opponents shoulders. Rather than trying react by "reflex" which I believe is a mistake, unless your reflex is a good one, yet still could be exploited. Develop good habits with good technique. Then read your opponents body language. This plus experience... why are you trying then to just train your jerk/twitch movements?

Counter punching is awesome especially if you are not that popular yet (meaning fighting pro and are making your name known). The reason is because a fighter will ALWAYS study his opponents. And yes, they can study HOW you counter punch. A fast fighter that is well prepared will have you guessing with good footwork, body movement and many faints and can be a dangerous threat; he would be trying to set you up for the expected counter. I believe that feeling comfortable with at least 2 styles is a great choice. You will be able to tell if it's time to switch it up, or if you need to switch it up more than once throughout the same fight.

Also you focus on technique and speed, if you catch him "на встречу" you don't need to power punch.

I think the best style is the one that suits you the most, BUT, knowing how to adapt when your style doesn't work, is the best thing! The more you practice the better

Everything he says about counter-punching is valid but we all have the same Achilles heels and that is we can't train to be unbeatable, we can only trained to be better.

You can also call an outfight as a counterpunching, coz using outfight you avoid punches just simply using your distance and punish him

Often, many people think that counter-punchers don't take the initiative when it comes to the ring. They actually do, it's how they counter their opponents. They might not throw the first few punches, but they set the pace for the entirety of the fight which is one of the most important times in the ring. Countering punches is very difficult, because you would need to lay in a trap for your opponent, and would need to be a little bit open to bait your opponent, then catch him off guard. The thing is with counter punching, it isn't just about being the fastest, it's about how you use speed to correct your timing. If you exhaust yourself punching your opponent while your opponent is staying calm and studying your movements, you would need to stop because humans have their own limits in both stamina and endurance. The point is when using this style, is how you setup opponents in difficult angles where they have fewer options to hit you, while you have multiple options to hit them. Often, in fighting, moves are predicted rather than reacted upon, and as such, to further enhance your predicting capabilities, you use feints, angles, punch positioning, and other tactics to smother your opponent into a corner or somewhere where he's vulnerable. Sure, other styles can use these tactics to win fights, but counter punchers use these tactics more efficiently. Simply because using them would further enhance the effectiveness of their play.
