In my opinion it seems to me Abby was trying so hard to get Holly and Nia off the team but Holly and Nia wasn't going to give Abby the satisfaction of pushing them off the team. Holly has taught Nia how to stand tall in the midst of adversity and never let anyone walk all over her.

@@JuliaBoateng you can’t make someone have bad technique! I think nia is saying that because she got so much hate for her dancing ! Even when she was in group dances and trios her technique was not up to her age level Technique is something that will look like it comes naturally to a dancer but is actually achieved through hours of training.Corrections should be made in class to overall technique like high relévè (this must be done specifically through working on foot flexibility and strength, and tbh even in later seasons, Nia's was not great) clean lines (aka straight legs, something we can all acknowledge Nia struggling with in early seasons) pointed feet (another weak area in early seasons) overall flexibility (in earlier seasons she frequently had a hard time hitting a full split in jumps and they were also never far off the ground which likely contributed to this. It's hard to hit a full 180° if you don't have the air time and they were always to quick to get the pretty floating effect that makes a great grand jétè) transitions between movements (Nia had a problem with this in softer lyrical dances, like she could never quite find the flow to make things look seamless. It got better in later seasons but was still kinda choppy and she did better with hard hitting/isolating movements from the very beginning. Also when they try to have her do floor work it is kind of uncomfortable to watch because it never looks natural.) Honestly, she isn't as bad of a dancer as a lot of people say she is. It's entertaining to watch and I personally think she is a better soloist because in a duet, trio, or group these deficiencies become more obvious when she is next to other dancers with better technique. In group dances she had a lot of timing issues in the beginning. It's also hard to remember choreo when you are trying to focus on technique, and vice versa, which is why technique should be worked on in class until you don't have to think about it. You've likely heard the phrase "practice until you get it right, and then keep practicing until you can't get it wrong".

Also i don’t blame nia Aldc is a very bad studio The ALDC was never a great studio, despite what Abby made it look like.Doesn’t seem like Abby was even able to pay her bills despite the outrageous tuition costs she was being paid. Aldc is definitely not the place you'd go if you had your sights set on a career in dance or on Broadway the way Abby made it seem and abby and gia choreography as whole. Their routines weren’t all that. First of all, even with Maddie being the golden child, most of her routines were extremely repetitive. The same turn sequence, Russian Switch Leap, other jumps. It’s just way too predictable and non-challenging. As were most of the other girl’s solos. The regression with Kalani and Brynn was obvious. What Alexa told Kalani about her constantly having to correct her on things she normally wouldn’t at Club was eye opening. Compared to all of the other studios in the country, especially with Club, Project 21, The Rock, etc. their choreography makes Abby’s look so childish. You don’t see these studios putting their 10-year olds on stage with an Acro routine. Most of their children at that age are doing full-fledged contemporary work and stop acro at age 8. Why Abby kept putting Mackenzie out there in pigtails and flipping around is beyond me. It made her look so much less advanced than the people around her. . Her choreography is not very dynamic. The dances feel like they're the same speed the whole time. There's no moments where the dancers are given an opportunity to breathe, and no moments where it feels like there's proper build up to a big move/moment in the music. Even in places where she does put in things like a big reach or something they're only like one count long and just make it feel rushed. In Abby/Gianna's minds, your solo either has to have a million turns or a million tricks. They literally cannot do anything else. I remember getting so frustrated when she was "choreographing" for Daviana and every two seconds was like "what trick can you put in here?". They might as well have let the girl just improv. It probably would have been better choreo than the solo she got.I remember someone asking Kira which solo Kalani would use at a real competition, and she was like, none of the ones she's learned here.
@nooraqueen2716

However Maddie’s dancing is so overrated because the show made her out to be some prodigy of a dancer when the show had other girls who are just simply better than her thanks to non-ALDC training. (Kalani, Brynn, Eli) She has the ability to entertain. Although not better than Kalani or Brynn, but there have been many dancers on the show far better than her, which her delusional “stans” refused to admit. From an objective POV, it’s just true . She has great stage presence but all her solos were the same, 70% turns and the same other moves. Maddie made plenty of technical errors - her releve wasn't the strongest, she fell out of turns very often, and she often rushed from one move to the next. When I was seeing mistakes like that followed by Abby gushing about how her performance was absolutely perfect, I'm naturally going to have to roll my eyes. overall control of movement wasn't on par with some other dancers on the show like Brynn, Kalani, Elliana.

Chloe was my favorite dancer. Christi only was protecting her daughter from a tyrant like Abby. 21 years of dance and I NEVER had a teacher treat me the way Abby treated her students other than Maddie. Christi called out Abby’s favoritism of Maddie, but Maddie would do everything to get Abby’s attention. Abby liked that dynamic. She was looking for Abby’s approval and it became psychotic at times to watch this little girl crave Abby’s attention. Melissa was kind of sleazy in my opinion and kissed Abby’s very large posterior whenever she could. Jill was another mom I couldn’t stand, another one who kissed her ass to get better choreography for her daughter. Kelly and Christi made me laugh the most. It’s a shame that Brooke and Paige both dropped out of dance when they left Abby’s studio. I recently saw of photo of Paige Hyland and my God, she’s gorgeous young lady, but she grew to hate dance thanks to the way Abby treated her. Maddie’s mistreatment on the show is so understated. All ppl see was that she rarely got yelled at and think she had a blast bc of it. I couldn’t imagine the stress that comes along with being someone like Abby’s “favorite”. Once they moved to Los Angeles they literally had an on set therapist for the girls to talk to. It should’ve been shut down long before it got to that but that should’ve been the nail in the coffin. Not enough people talk about how we watched little girls being verbally and emotionally abused on national television everyone’s just like “well they could’ve left”, they really couldn’t have. The only person who had a somewhat okay experience on the show was Kalani

The show made it look like Chloe was the only one who received one, and edited in Maddie being anxious over not getting to organize her makeup from a different part of the dressing room prep into the scene with Chloe’s call (so she wasn’t jealous). @@sharnagrayson9649 they really weren’t. If Abby gave all of them the attention she gave maddie then they’d be wonderful. I know it comes down to how you want to improve but still. They weren’t jealous at all.

I really feel for Maddie (not just because we share a name!) I wasn't emotionally abused by my teachers as a child but being the favourite because I was a bright student and 'mature' (read: heavily masking and anxious undiagnosed autistic girl) really fucked me up. It feeds into perfectionistic tendencies, makes you feel like you can't let go or mess up for fear of losing approval and your identity becomes tied up in being the 'good kid'. Plus the other kids become very resentful and it created social problems for me.

Can we also talk about how the mothers would constantly talk about Melissa’s personal life that must’ve been really hard for Mackenzie and Maddie especially because she was at an age where she understood what was going on

This is so sad bc the kids were probably horrified. Paige was having panic attacks because of how scared she was. Brooke was constantly in pain. Chloe was made fun of because of her eye condition which is absolutely DISGUSTING!! Nia was a victim of racism if u would call it. Maddie and Kenzie were constantly traumatized abby always claimed they were jealous of Maddie and ruined so many of the kids friendships. She would bully everyone she threw a chair at Paige. She would bully kids. She would comment on weight looks etc. I heard that she made it where they couldn’t gain or lose 10 pounds. A grown adult BODY SHAMING little kids is absolutely horrifying. Not to mention she would do bully Kendall she would comment on everything Kendall did fix her leg etc. She yelled in poor nias little face FIX HER HAIR and luckily queen holly stood up for her daughter. Dance moms is such a horrifying show

Parents yelling and hurting each other is very traumatic as a child; I know from experience. I feel sorry for these kids 😓

Hi, I was wondering are you going to touch more on how the show misrepresented some of the girls talent? Particularly Nia and the other POC’s on the show. Nia and Camryn have both said the show made them look like they were bad dancers when they really were not. Nia has said that off show she would go to conventions and people would be surprised with her skill level and technique. The show would also not show some of the dance moves that she had like other girls. Also, with Camryn they didn’t air her best solo. With both girls they were consistently given mediocre choreography.

That clip of Abby putting Maddie against her OWN MOTHER (the clip of her gaslighting Maddie) will never fail to make my blood boil. The tears and everything from Abby was so awful to do to a young girl who was told not to go in by her mother.

I remember watching Dance Moms while I was a dancer. My mom was a dance teacher and all of my cousins were dancers. We went to a mostly white dance studio (who were actually in the running to be on the show lol). I remember being told multiple times that in order for me to be put in a dance, I'd have to straighten my hair to look more white like the other girls. One of the biggest reasons I stopped dancing as a kid. Even now as an adult, it seriously hurts to watch Abby yell at Nia like that.

I'm a dancer and I remember everyone asking me if Ive ever watched dance moms and I NEEEVVEERRRR did because I could recognize the abuse. Dance teachers (not all) are horrible. I was weighed every week, practiced until I couldnt stand etc. I left when I was 18 and have been dancing in my own way since then. These girls didnt deserve anything they were put through.
