This gives me a good understanding about the role of the hamstrings.

I recently strained my hamstring and can attest that my stride rate has tanked. Slowly healing and getting back up to speed.

Hi JP, I’m a middle distance runner. The range of motion of my hamstring is very poor. During running, I cannot flex my knee properly to increase the step rate. Do u think I should keep strengthening the hamstring through gym, or any other method u would recommend?

I dont understand. The resistance from the ground reaction is in the direction of trying to cause knea flexion... then after toe off the hamstring creates tension to flex the knee in the swing phase (accelerating just the weight of your leg) and is used to stabalize the tibia from stance to toe off. Maybe how its supporting hip extension? Or perhaps its resisting the centrifugal force created by the hip flexion on the swing phase? Im curious. I want to calculate the torque created in the knea from the hip flexion for different hip flexion speeds or speed traces if i can find the data. Also, can you link the paper you mentioned in this video? Thanks!

Thanks for the paper. A helpful cue for hams engagement. Noticed something unknown to me - the RF fires strongly after foot off/toe off. After replicating, my watch measured an increased stride length, yesss. Think this conscious effort magically helped in high kneeing. What do you think, some Newton actio=reactio at play?

I wish my hamstrings were firing up more, I've got anterior pelvic tilt so I need to work more on my core

I see what you mean. The relationship between pelvic position and the hamstrings matter. I'm curious how this is affecting your running though

@@JPGloria My long runs on weekends are around 15 km long, so as soon as I reach 12 km or so during a run, my knees get stiff. This goes away maybe 10-15 minutes after I stop running but it's really annoying.

Great story. Sorry but it complete bullshit. The hamstrings prevent the leg from extending, so you move forward instead of upward. That a eeg shows most activity in the swing phase is because the hamstrings are preloaded there, during the propulsion phase the hamstrings are isometric, they don't lengthen or shorten. Great animations!!
