I had no idea about her sexual orientation. The poor girl had a miserable childhood and Catholic shame is a curse that no child should be subjected to. Having to drink to be intimate with a partner, and feeling like a sinner for doing so probably made it impossible for her to have relationships. So cruel to someone whose talent brought joy to so many.

Her sexuality has nothing to do with why she ate cauliflower and it has nothing to do with her music either and she is my favorite

Such a cursory overview of her life story. She had number one hits worldwide with You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me and What Have I Done to Deserve This? She packed The Royal Albert Hall in the years you say she was a flop. Since her death, there have been several musicals of her life, the most successful of which ran in Australia for over a year.

It wasn't Dusty's somewhat open sexual orientation that brought her career down; it was her substance abuse problems. She became unreliable. The duet that Elton John did with Kiki Dee was written with Dusty in mind, but because she was busy flaking, Kiki Dee got to do the record. Dusty also had a lot of friends. She became very close (not in a romantic way, but as friends) with Martha Reeves (Martha and the Vandellas) and was constantly bringing soul acts to England. Richard Carpenter eventually teamed up with her to do some songs he'd originally written for his sister, saying that Dusty was the only person who could pull them off. The Pet Shop Boys single featuring her revived her career more than anything else. Dusty wasn't the only lesbian in pop circles; Lesley Gore also had to hide her sexuality. I have no idea how many other women got stuck in that situation.

Son of a Preacher Man was first offered to Aretha Franklin who turned it down because her father was a minster. After she heard Dusty sing it, she (Aretha) knew she made a mistake.

This narrator always seems to be somewhat clueless regarding the subject of these Fact Verse videos. There is no mention here of "The Springfields " , or her recording with " The Pet Shop Boys " although I saw a quick photo of her with them near the end of this video. Let's get the full picture from now on along with a new and informed narrator. , Dean ( in Syracuse)

Hold on, she sold her catalog of songs for millions so dies rich she would have been appalled to have been portrayed as such a tragic figure. She had developed something like bipolar thus the alcohol and drug abuse( cocaine ,qualudes) and the worse ...severe burnout!! She started working at 16 and supported herself her whole life. But with help from friends and AA she conquered her demons. She didn't die of addiction or an overdose like so many in the music industry. She was clean and sober for years so no more tears please .She was a survivor ! And dont forget she worked and was a huge success in a seriously misoginistic male dominated industry😘😍😊Bravo Dusty😎😍

Didn’t know about her concert in South Africa. Damn this is a tragic story 😢 I don’t know what sexuality has to do with Talent, but I could care less!!! Dusty had a once in a lifetime voice IMHO and the way she performed her Songs was amazingly beautiful! WHAT A GOLDEN THROAT! One of my absolute Favorite Female Vocalists of My Life. “I Only Want to Be With You,” and You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me” are goose bump songs. I’m sorry she had such a horrible childhood, and unrequited life 😒 I’ll never stop Loving her Songs or Loving her. RIP Dear Dusty…

She was also "introduced" in 1967's Casino Royale singing the iconic "The Look of Love" over a scene with Peter Sellers and Ursula Andress. I think another singer like her in style is Marilyn Maye. Only a couple of octaves deeper.

I guess I'm really old school, but I remember two of her big hits "Wishin and Hopin", and "You Don't Have To Say You Love Me" as well as doing a lot of work as one of the background singers for Elton John from Tumbleweed Connection to Honkey Chateau.

It's unfortunate that Dusty Springfield ruined her chance for entering a state of ketosis by eating ice cream. But maybe it was sugar-free ice cream. Anyway, cancer cells thrive off of sugar, not from ketones. Her extreme choice of eating low carb cauliflower makes sense to me. I'd like more information about the ice cream, though. Kefir would've been better.
