A small indie company like Nintendo simply doesn't have the resources to support smooth online play and a Competitive scene for one of their best selling titles! Mario is my best friend, and if he's allowed to play competitively, he might get hurt! Then what will Nintendo do without Mario?

Yeah the learning curve for melee is absurd. You have to be single with little to no responsibilities to be able to get really good at that game and that’s far too much effort to put into a video game just to be somewhat competitive at it, more power to ya though.

All of us have lives beyond learning over three hours just to consistently wavedash, then practicing for the next day and realize that you're still shit at it, and on top of thatl, once you're finally at a modicum level of consistency, you have to l cancel, waveland, moonwalk, and even then, you'll still suck at the game.

Yeah, the competitive Smash community is the absolute worst. Players throwing hissy fits any time the character they want in Smash wasn't the one Nintendo was revealing that day, competitors berating others for playing a ruleset that they don't like and calling them fake fans for enjoying the game the way they want, toxic spectators sending death threats and suicide demands to players like Riddles and Onin over what character they decide to play, bigots of all types harassing players of non-privileged identities who win regionals or beat top players in an effort to try and coerce them out of the community before their Smash careers can take off, et cetera. Individuals like these as well as those who are toxic in a myriad of other ways actively make the social aspect of Smash so unbearably atrocious that interacting with Smash players is a pernicious, draining, irritating, and just straight-up negative experience more often than not. Don't even get me started on all the abusers and the MAPs that were allowed to flourish in the scene for years and still make it a dangerous place for women and minors to this very day. The competitive Smash community is a joke, and it's not even a funny one.

Completely understand. Smash was never meant to be competitive. 90 percent of the stages in this game are not competitively viable. The DLC are unquestionably unbalanced. The quickplay experience is clearly terrible. There is hope however. Rivals of Aether 2 is coming out next year and has more of a potential to be the best platform fighting game than Multiversus or All stars ever had.

Melee will always be grand. Corneria is actually the most skillfull stage to play far more than any of the other stages that are considered Tournament legal. I hate to see Smash Bros Tournaments die out before people even have realized it's True potentual. 1.0 isn't it people. It's absolutely mind blowing that people think 1.0 damage ratio is where it's at. So laughable no offense. 0.5 is where the true pros are defined. And yet no one has realized this yet after decades. Here's the thing about Smash: If you learn and play it for money, you're playing it for the wrong reasons. Smash as an esport is driven SOLELY by love for the game. That's why melee has stuck around this long, if people played it for the money it would've died in 08. But the game is so complex and rewarding to learn and watch that it makes up for the lack of support tenfold. You get out of smash what you put in. I understand that that is frustrating, no one more than smash fans would wish the scene had more support, but you have to understand that the lack of support is probably one of the biggest reasons this community is so tight-knit. We ALL hate Nintendo. But we love smash. So we play. Good luck out there brother.

Well for me. I've never been able to go to local due to parents at the time (Smash 4 days to now). I can now but, with locals not being as big as it is where I am at I just can't play. Also I'm done trying to play Comp as well since none of the hours that I put mean jack squat. I have at least 3k hours combine from both games and it just means nothing. I main Mario if you are wondering, It just pisses me off when someone younger them me can beat me at something and I know that is a very childish way to think but, it just hurts the spirit you know especially when they have less hours then you do . Then I once fought in a tournament for my HS and I didn't know that I was going up against Olympia a player that is top 50 in my state and I got 3 stocked and I quit game 1. So yeah... sorry for my rant but if yall are enjoying the game still keep playing it. It really is a good game it's just the community and the company that just can't seem to get along.

Honestly, if your playing any heavy period, or are not willing to pick up a top 25 character. Then competing just isn't worth it. Though I think I might be being a bit generous on the cut off being top 25, maybe top 20 or slightly less. I'm not even saying don't try and compete for personal enjoyment. Cause I still play 1v1 for fun when I got time. But expecting to get to the top with out a top tier, and also not being an 8+ hour a day sweat is a lot to put on yourself. So loosened expectations and even outright dropping being a self titled "competitor" is definitely the right move if you don't see any long term success.

I think Smash as a franchise is not meant to be competitively played. It's a combination of multiple IPs. Even their Mascot Mario suffered nerfs and forever put in the average tier for competitive because they don't care about the "Elite"/"Competitive" play style. The 3rd party characters got their "respectful" treatments being a foreign IP. And if they go all out for a competitive scene, it will be more of an IP wars than an actual competitive e-sports.

Smash Ultimate just straight up sucks in general, both casually and competitively (more the latter though). Ultimate truly destroyed everything I loved from the series. Also hot take, while I still do respect Sakurai, I really dislike his stance on competitive Smash and how he indirectly punishes and discourages players to play the game competitively by putting awful mechanics into the game (Brawl with tripping, Smash 4 with rage and Ultimate's terrible buffer system along with the fact that you can't buffer a full hop on top of having the worst input delay). Combining these terrible mechanics along with the degenerate cast of characters and you got yourself an unfun competitive game to play.
