I can relate to what you're saying. I've been at the same place for over 14 years. I have the same issues: seven minute ride to work, and can basically do whatever I want on the job. But, I do a lot of the same thing too, day after day. Drive vehicles that don't really appeal to me that much. But I'm home every night, and know the job inside out. The owner comes to me for advice lol, I've been here longer that him. I honestly stay because there's no where else to go locally, and I'm comfortable. You have to do what makes you happy. You can always go back to Cardillo if it doesn't work out. Good luck Mike!

Hi Mike, good luck in your new company. I have enjoyed your videos, even though I am not a trucker. My uncle ran a trucking and heavy equipment company back in the 60's and 70's and had a 1966 Mack B-61 and then some R-600 Macks, some IH Transtars and even a Chev C90 with a Detroit. I actually have worked in the radio business for the past 45 years, and in a parallel to your dislike of automatic trucks, I saw the way radio was going with all the automation. So, I left a steady job 45 minutes away at a commercial station and with a group of friends we started a 6,500 watt Community Radio station. That was 12 years ago, and we are having a lot of fun. We still use computers but the feeling is the same as when we were using 45's and reel-to-reel tapes and tape cartridges. This video was a lot like where I was 12 years ago. Thanks Mike !

I hear what you are saying and I support you. I'm 52 in Maine I've been driving the same mail route for 24 years . But it's been steady work and the money is good. 6 days a week though and Noone available for a day off. My company said they would go out of business if I quit lol. The other reason they are going auto trans you can't find drivers that know how to drive standard transmission anymore and with new trucks they seem to be pushing automatics it's like the def inevitable. In 1994 I drove an international eagle for carco carrier corporation they were based out of Fort Smith Arkansas

I do a similar job to yours, but my company doesn't care at all about the trucks, and are pushing automatics. I'm the last manual driver. I’m 65 and not even close to being ready to retire. I’m just someone who thrives on going to work everyday and being a productive member of society. I’ve been driving commercial vehicles since I was 16 years old. Stared as a school bus driver as a junior in high school………lol shutter the thought these days, but anyway, although I spent the bulk of my working years as a state trooper, I never wasn’t driving a truck at least part time. The last 10 years I’ve spent working as a coordinator and CDL state examiner at a community college……….VERY STRESSFUL!! At this point in my life I would sort of like to spend the rest of my working life with a small business like A Cardillo. I wish you Gods speed on your new journey. I will say this. As a long time trucker who has driven for many companies here in NY doing different things, I can agree that 'stretching your legs' can be a really good thing. I can pretty much jump into any truck and any company with confidence that I can handle the job. So, I agree with your move. Yes, it is hard to leave a great company that has treated you with respect and dignity, as you have treated them. And I agree with the other commenters who've said that that compliment was a class act. True appreciation for what you have done for them, both in work and in 'showing off' your work ethic and appreciation for trucks in general. Kudos to you sir. Side note: I also HATE automatics. 😂 They do ruin the experience and there is a 'loss' of control. But unfortunately, they don't make them like us anymore, i.e., most new drivers these days are a bunch of steering wheel holders. (Yes, I said it) It's people like you that keep the trucking industry alive and well, with your great content and personality. So, thank you.
