This game series is seriously so deep people wouldn’t even understand it today. Kids wouldn’t even have the patience to sit through the cutscenes. Playing mgs1 at 8 opened my eyes to worldwide politics , war and economy at an age where it didn’t matter but still heavily interested me and I carried that into the future. These games definitely made me more intelligent

Not a hope could kids today grasp what this game is trying to convey. Especially since they're actually living through some of the concepts in the story. I was only 12 when this game dropped. I enjoyed every bit of it but I won't pretend that I understood it all. It was years later after going back to it and listening to some channels like this that I fully understood it. This channel is amazing at how they pick apart such complex things from these games. Which grants even more credit to Kojima for coming up with the concept to make a playable game of it.

Have this game been produced by an American, I bet it would be selected by the National Film Registry as "culturally, historically, or aesthetically important, and/or inform or reflect life in the United States." because it just is. How ironic a Japanese know deeper about the problem of the US than most US population themselves.

MGS2 was the “Hollywood video game” MGSPW/MGSV was the prematurely canceled “Tv series/streamed series video game” forced into “reruns” MGSV always having credits for all the main players of the mission always came across to me as a tv series as opposed to Hollywood film type feel. I think Kojima said as much in an interview as well. Interesting idea!

I just got an ad for an AI friend while watching this video. While not AI, this reminded me about the so called Russian bot situation that's happened in recent years, and seems to a parallel to this video speaking to "truths" and narrative.
@brianferguson3447
Жыл бұрын
It seems like the only solid truth is just raw quantifiable data. You then interpret that data and filter it through your own perspective and experiences which forms a narrative which is subjective because it's your own interpretation and is being expressed in language which is imperfect because it is loaded with context and connotations and can never perfectly mirror reality. The tao that can be spoken is not the true tao. Then add on top of that that our memories of our experiences are highly malleable and basically get rewritten every time we remember them, and the truth gets even fuzzier. It's not that there is no such thing as truth or reality. It's that the way you interpret the data and the meaning you take from it and the way you choose to express it in language are all subjective. Once you form narratives and meanings out of data, you can only reach a provisional "truth" that is only true within a certain context.

I really hate how any discussion about truth seems to degrade into a lot of platitudes, navel gazing, and circle jerking. The social construction of reality really only gets you so far. What does "a drop of truth in a sea of alternative truths" even mean? While someone could try to deceive me about the number of fingers I have, I don't see that such gaslighting could continue successfully for long. It seems that there are a lot of basic things we experience that it would be hard to deceive someone about, or even to frame the experience in such a way that it was perceived to be fundamentally different than the reality. I've enjoyed a lot of your content exploring the details of Hideo Kojima's games, but I think you take his ideas far too seriously.
