Good stuff Captain...you know I’m a Seth fan and it took me 2 years of rejection before he said ‘yes’ to meeting me on my show for the first time 10 yrs ago....(story for another day). But some of the best advice he gave me in the beginning was this: “It turns out Yoda was wrong when he said, ‘Do or do not, there is no try...’ There IS a try...there has to be...if you’re not trying, you’re hiding.” This is the essence of The Dip to me. Nikhil, great video! I need to be reminded to stop ruminating on the feedback (good or bad) and stay focused on the path. I have been working on my current venture for three years. I think there is so much truth in what you are saying about these stages we all go through. Obviously, anyone who has put a lot of effort into something gained skills and knowledge about their area of concentration and has the potential to do great things. Sometimes we have to reframe our mindsets to get out of the slump of mediocracy to gain success. Small, subtle changes can change the direction and make all the difference. Thanks

Strange how I got this video right as I'm pushing past that "dip". Even though I didn't know what to call it, I knew what it was. If that makes sense. I had a similar thing to your situation with the play, except mine had to do with making comics about some online friends. Before that I was struggling with my art and also was pretty lonely. Perfectionism and discouragement from family I thought I could trust also really got the best of me. I was looking for a discord server to get some online friends. I found one and entered a voice chat with people in it. Ended up talking to one of the members all night, sharing life stories and all that. Then they made a joke about another member/friend who posted a selfie, saying he looked like an egg. Then I drew them as an egg and @'d them. Then he popped into VC and met me, and we became friends. After that I became known as the server artist and was making characters and comics based on the jokes my friends would do. And now I'm at a point where I have the confidence and the knowledge (Art style, constructing comic pages, etc) to do the things I want to. But I can't rely on those online friends forever, nor do I want to. So my plan is to start with the small things, the small ideas; and work my way up from there. Thank you for making these videos, Captain Sinbad. They have helped so much.

I cared a lot about people’s opinions earlier. You are so right about not caring about people’s feedbacks and staying on your path. I lost so much inspite of everything I did that when I hit rock-bottom I realised that what matters the most is my own ego. My parents taught me to be humble and well mannered but I feel like I am reborn as a new person who wants to be shameless, carefree and egotistical.

Sometimes I find that this can be taken to the extreme. I've met some hardworking people who will stick to what they do no matter what. Sometimes they do great, but sometimes they're still stuck after a long while, much longer than it usually takes. Of course, they're the minority, but alongside this advice, you should also remember to know that if something ain't working no matter how much you try, it's okay to take a diff approach or try something else. Good luck to you all, dearly beloved

Man, what a profound video. It was so enjoyable to watch. Man himself is unaware of his potential and of the potential around him. Escaping mediocrity is mostly about acknowledging that despite the variables in a situation, 'striving towards improvement'-is a given, like you said. Once you establish this, everything else is irrelevant. In this state of mind, you've isolated yourself from the rat race. Your content has always been great and your post-production these days is so good.

This video might be the best thing I've seen in years! I never realized that "the dip" was normal, I thought I was on the wrong path because nothing seemed to be working like it used to. At one point I was a "great singer" and many people told me I should be a professional. As I started down that path, my joy, talent, energy, and even the positive feedback from others seemed to disappear entirely. I gave up on singing for a while because it seemed to be a fruitless endeavor that only gave me joy when I was new to it. Yet over time, my passion has returned. It seems like I just need to keep at it and not attach to feedback from others or be deterred by the setbacks and slumps along the way. This is EXACTLY what I needed to hear today. A lot of your videos have been resonating with me lately. Thanks Cap'n!

The more I think about it, the more I realize that a lot of the content that resonates with me on and off KZitem has elements of Stoicism and Minimalism. Not just in the content, but the style as well. Each of the creators: from Matt D'Avella, Nathaniel Drew, Eric Wen, and the Captain, Sorelle Amore, Peter McKinnon, all have these aspects. It's hard to be lukewarm about these creators. Which is why I truly respect their art. You're either with them, or you're not. And if you give them a chance, not only will you find out more about yourself ( or the kind of life you want), or more about the world you live in. Bonus, you'd even get to rethink books you've already read and re-apply lessons you may have missed on the first pass. Thanks, man, for the light you shine. To you, I say...
