Laos is a mysterious country to most people, surrounded by much larger countries that have more famous landmarks and cuisines. I went to Laos to uncover what kind of food represents the country and discovered that papaya salad is one of Laos' defining dishes. The thing is, I always thought papaya salad was from Thailand; the truth is a lot more complicated. In this video, I go through various points in history to figure out whether papaya salad is from Thailand or Laos.
