This is an excellent shotgun for the money. I put 125 rounds through my 20 gauge Tristar Walmart shotgun and the gun performed excellently on the Clay shooting range. Not only did the shotgun perform excellently on the Clay shooting range, the shotgun also is kool looking as well. In conclusion, the shotgun had no recoil issue at all considering it light weight.

based off some home work and your videos i bought a walmart o/u. tri star upland hunter both the 12ga and 20 ga are $363 where i live. I just put about 25rnds through mine and i like it. its a little light but swings and points nice. the fit, finish and looks are good for the price. i really cant complain so far. its very tight so just clean it, lube it, work it and enjoy. save yourself $2k.

I also recommend putting a little blue Loctite on the bolt/screw holding the tang safety in place. During a pheasant hunt with heavy loads my safety became loose and caused me a couple of birds. Was about a five minute fix, and easy to do. I have thousands of rounds through mine, and just recently acquired a spare to carry to matches, so I would be shooting the exact same model if for some reason a firing pin or some other part failed. I had a Mossberg over and under for a spare, but did not find it to be as well built as the Tri-Star. The Mossburg had a pin in the trigger assembly that had nothing to retain it on one side and plenty of room to walk out. I though it was sheared until the free replacement from Mossberg came in and it looked exactly like the original. One other thing to note was, after a few thousand shells, I did shear one firing pin. Probably closed the shotgun with a firing pin still exposed from being to dirty after a long day of shooting. They sent me free replacements with no hassle, and sold me spares in case it happened again. If I have to install a spare, I am confident they will replace it for free.

Enjoyed the videos and remembered seeing these at my local Walmart. Is it still holding up? I was tempted to get one but didn't. Bought a Franchi Affinity instead that has been flawless.

The affinity is a great gun. My upland Hunter has turned out to be fantastic. Not sure on durability or longevity yet, but real good shooter.

Simple and easy to work on, but still people dump them off at the shop in groves for me to fix. It'd be different if there were a ready source for firing pins without having to order them from Tri-Stat, and their replacement firing pins don't even last as long as the ones which came in the gun. The only 'quality' brand that has near that level of problem with firing pins is Browning, but at least I can source them other places than Midwest Gun Works. The other problem with these guns is the quality of the metal used is subpar; they are not built to hand down to your kids, unless all you do with it is take it out of the gun cabinet or safe and fondle it. A Browning will last long enough for your great grandkids to be shooting it. I constantly tell new clays shooter to avoid Turkish shotguns like the plague. When you add up the costs of clays shooting, the gun, if it's a decent one to begin with, is a small part of the cost. Why not get a quality gun to begin with.

I did my first trap shoot today, should say had a lesson. Used the range's O/U. I enjoyed it. I have a 20g Mossberg 500 pump that I'll try as well. Prefer the 20ga, as yes I'm 59 and not as much meat on the shoulder as I had when I was 25 so less recoil the better. So now I'll check Walmart an see if they have these in 20 ga. Thanks for the vid, I noticed your son's had good safety control with the finger off the trigger til ready to shoot.. Good luck to you all!

Great video, one question if you don't mind. I have one and it fired both barrels almost simultaneously. Needless to say that got my attention. Have you heard any others doing the same? It could've just be me not securing the stock to my shoulder well enough. I had a pretty good bruise to show for it.
@williamalcaida1018

I had an Italian made O/U that would do that. Not sure of the similarities in the mechanisms, it mine ended up being the tolerances between the two hammers. When the first barrel fires. Or should “cock” the second hammer. If they’re to close I think, it will fire both hammers. In Bubbas voice” That’s all I got to say about that.

We had to buy a Browning at about 2500 rounds. The tristar still worked fine but with nationals coming up we figured we better plan ahead and get him trained in on a new shotgun. We bought him a Browning for the rest of the season. The Tristar was great but not for competition.

Avoid all this disassembly using Rem Oil, squeeze some fair amount directly in to both firing pin holes Rem Oil in thin and penetrating with Teflon, comes with tiny tubes that fit directly in to both pin holes...Solved without all that labor

Amazing ,,you buy a new gun fails first time you take it out. then you call it a good little gun. Kind of old fashion here like things that I buy new, to work. I would bet you will get cracks in the stock shortly . For a high volume shooter these are junk. Gun smith told me once that the only good thing about Turkish o/u ,is you can forget it at the gun club. go back next week it will still be in the rack.
