Hi there, love your video. Just for interest, Asian cuisine influence is big in Peru. Ceviche is influenced by the Japanese community, (sashimi), lomo saltado by the Chinese, it's cooked on a wok and soya sauce is the key ingredient, sometimes oyster sauce as well. In fact 90% of Peruvians have soya sauce, oyster sauce and sesame oil in their kitchen cabinet. Hope you return .

As a side note, the song you heard everybody singing in mercado San Ramon is called "Contigo Perú", it was composed by Polo Campos in 1977 as a request from former president Francisco Morales Bermúdez, it was meant to be a song for our national football (Soccer) team, supposedly they closed the deal and Polo Campos went for a coffee, he started composing on the back of his coffee recipt and finished the song 15 minutes later. Nowadays it's more like Perús second anthem, that's why everybody was singing along. As a Peruvian I swear every time I hear that song I get goosebumps like every other Peruvian. I really liked your video, thanks for visiting my country and sharing your experience.

I was liking your video up to the part where you started to get SUPER IGNORANT(and slightly racist) about Peruvian-Chinese food. I am Peruvian-Chinese so I can definitely say this). First, you go to the place and say “there are no Asian people here so it may be bad”. Well if you see me walking down the street you would never know I am part Chinese and my last name is Chinese. In Peru, a relatively very big segment of the population has Chinese roots (even higher if you go to the northern coast), and guess what?! We are MIXED RACE. I am so disappointed that a couple apparently from CALIFORNIA spews such a stupid and racist opinion (I can also say this because guess what? I live in LA and have been living in California for almost a decade). Second, you trash the food as “not authentic enough” even comparing it to “a fast food chain”. Again, so surprisingly narrow minded. Maybe you guys never thought that Chifa is fusion cuisine? How very “American” of you to go to a whole different country and expect exactly the same as what you would eat in the restaurants you have already eaten in another country (ignoring the history of how Chifa came to be). You may look Asian, but are VERY AMERICAN after all. Thumbs down. Ugh.
@chrisandamanda490

Damn, I really appreciate your comment. That’s a real eye opener. We’re definitely pretty ignorant and make a lot of judgements without thinking, but we are always willing to shut up and learn when others speak. We were coming in thinking Chifa is Chinese food and didn’t even think about the fact that chifa is obviously fusion cuisine. I’m reading this on the train right now with Amanda and we’re both agreeing that our judgement was completely stupid. We apologize for offending you and really appreciate you educating us. Will definitely never make that mistake again. I would even give us a thumbs down for that.

Yes we do have Karens in Perú too. somehow this guy needs attention. I'm maybe 20 percent japanese and I do not look Asian so what? So what? Racist? Racist? Is he in a Donald Trump rally? He is just eating food and looking around having fun there is no harm in his words. Offensive? Hey! he is not talking to you he is just looking around. He was trying to say maybe that's why the food was not that great is an observation. I know maybe in your crazy Karen world you feel intitle to things. I'm sorry 🙏 does makes you feel better? I hope so, my great grand dad was Japanese and if he would cook horrible i have the right to say your food sucks so he would get better. He would kick my ass if I lied. I just hate this comment. It is not easy to find good restaurants in Lima as there are way too many and some of them are not even ran anymore by peruvian chefs, because inmigrant wage is way cheaper. I agree that Tanta is not suprising, it is more like a safe option when you just want to eat some standard quality food. The food you guys tried is actually just food from the coast, so you are actually missing to try some from the mountains and jungle region, which is very different. Also, could have tried more classic day to day peruvian food like aji de gallina, cau cau, carapulcra, etc, which are also very good
