I think it's funny how people think someone else should be saving what's in the scrapyard. For one thing you can't keep it all waiting for someone to pony up and pay. But another thing I don't get is why is a guy like you always the bad guy? What about the other dozen previous owners? They're the ones that let it get to the scrap pile. What about new car buyers? Why don't they keep better care of it and THEY keep it forever? Somehow it's always someone else just trying to earn a living is the bad guy. Thanks for sharing

That old Chevy truck looked a lot better than it was due to the rust being where you couldn't see it at first glance. While the truck could be brought back if you threw enough money at it, there are thousands of others that could be brought back for much less. If there's anyone to blame for that Chevy being so busted up it's worth more as scrap, it'd be the previous owners who neglected it to that point. By the time most cars get to Silas, they're pretty far gone, and need to be recycled. That's what he does; if he'd wanted to go into the auto restoration biz, he would have. As it is, we get to see things about end-recycling that we wouldn't otherwise. Me, I'm subscribed and I never miss a vid.

There are lots of people out there that will whine and cry about disposing of something old. But if you ask them to buy it from you, or find it a home they immediately go quiet. 🤐 What would be cool is if a trade school bought the better cars off you at a profit for you. Then they could fix them up as training and sell them.

If the Haters want to save a vehicle so bad, have them make you a valid offer. One thing you forget to mention is the cost of the acres of vehicles and scrap. They cost real money! Do you have loans to pay for them? If so, the interest hangs over your head all the time. If not, all this inventory does not help your finances until you sell it. That’s dead money until you can sell something. Also, the land did not come free and is probably costing you money, too. I would not try to be your tax accountant and show how you are making money! I’m glad you have a good understanding of finances! Keep up your Good Work!

@@Mercmad To do a resto like that truck would have required, you need to figure on s minimum of three car spaces: one to keep the chassis as it's being reassembled, one to keep parts as they come off the car, and one as workspace. Add 2 more spaces if you do the body and paint.

The more older trucks and cars that get crushed the more valuable those that remain become. Years ago I out bid the scrap man for a rusty 53 ford pickup. Paid $85 . I sold the speedometer a week later for $35. The engine turned out to be good. Its now in our 55 ford ranch wagon. It had that little round radio and celing mount speaker. A Guy drove all the way from michigan to buy the radio and some stainless trim the ignition key and lock. $300. and last week I sold the doors for $75 each. It still has a good windshield. It aint eating anything. doesnt owe me a penny. A couple week ago I sold a bed like on that chevy truck he crushed for $400. Now my situation is unique. Our collection is our retirement. other folks have a pension or 401K. We have a horde of stuff. I once worked at the local scrap yard. I had to quit because I spent my paycheck buying all the good stuff! Many folks(even some family members) cant understand why we dont let the car chrusher come and mash it all and get a quick pile of money. It boils down to the fact is many good well meaning folks are quite fond of telling others what they ought to do with their stuff. When the only person who has the authority to decide is the owner of the stuff. The video poster owns the truck its his right to decide what to do with it. We have U Tube videos of our collection. And we are Hoarders that like to sell stuff.

At a glance? Yeah that truck looked worth saving, BUT after the walk around? You're spot on, you KNOW your business! I got OVER 50 years in the trade, even had a small yard myself, so I know what I'm talking about too. It was THE prime model, the shortbed. Shame shipping has gotten so outrageous. Believe it or not back east here, rusty as it was, that is typical for what you find, and that's IF you can even find one! They are that rare here. If I can get ahead enough money, want to have a serious talk with you about a 55-57 cab and front clip. Big truck is fine! I have a 1 ton, so I can use the big truck front fenders. I'm a mechanic, NOT a bodyman, so I hate rust, could well be worth having a cab and front clip shipped. REALLY enjoy your videos Silas, ignore the ignorant haters!

Another awesome video Bud. You don't need to explain yourself. Yeah it's a shame the old truck got crushed, but I understand from your point of view and I agree with you . I've sold old cars before and people want them for nothing, you wait months and months to find that buyer. And yeah I agree that's what would happen with the old truck ,all the keyboard sooks abuse you for crushing them old rusty vehicles but are they on your doorstep with the money to buy it and save it, no they are not. If these people want to save old rusty junk vehicles then come up with the money it's that simple. And sometimes not all can be saved the rust ends their life.
