I had a massive epiphany one day where i realised I used to have so much creativity when I was 8-15. My old journals had short stories written in it, i would draw like crazy, read so many books and game MODERATLEY. I am now a 21 year old uni student with a part time lazy office job and game obsessivley in my only spare time and as of October 2023, I have been on a mission to get back in touch with that younger version of myself. I picked up reading, my journal is starting to bulge, I'm learning how to use guoache paints, building miniature sets along with gaming and I have never been so fulfilled just by doing these little hobbies because it truly is all just for me and my brain has been loving it :))

I notice from most of the comments that many of us “lost” our creativity or pushed our hobbies to the back around college. The place that is supposed to foster creativity and open new avenues actually stunted us. I’m glad that most of us are reconnecting with our younger selves again! I use to write poetry everyday and while my muse has changed to writing stories instead it feels great to embrace that side of myself again.

Standard education isn't pushing to be our best but to be the best among others. Most people are taught to be better, get good grades, and hold big pressure that they don't even have time for themselves. I agree that grades, studies and all that are essential but it shouldn't come to an extent which you lose your happiness. When I come back to see old high school friends after like 4 years and see them in such a depressing state that even some picked up alcohol or other addictions. It makes me sad, so please take care of yourself. Do what makes you happy, prioritize your mental health 😁

Librarian here! Happy to recommend some good romcoms! I’m not sure what you’ve read already, but Happy Place by Emily Henry is probably my favorite romcom ever. All of Emily Henry’s adult romances are great, but this one for me was her best. Not only was the romance compelling - and I don’t normally enjoy the exes-to-lovers trope, so this is high praise from me for this book - but the actual story was just… oof, right in the feels. It’s about growing up, and about how that changes you and especially your friendships. The friendship aspects of the story had me literally in tears, but in the best way. And like all Emily Henry books, in the end you feel healed, like the world was ripped apart and put back together better than it was before. So good. I highly recommend it. If you enjoy cozy books, I’d also recommend The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna. If you enjoy audiobooks at all, I loved the narrator for this one, so it’d be good for any commutes you have. The romance is a sunny/grumpy, mild enemies-to-lovers, but not in any sort of toxic or gross way. Like I said, it’s cozy, so it’s sweet and low stakes with a guaranteed happy ending but without being vapid.

@beccabecca7
7 ай бұрын
@@princyy824 Depends on the position and the library how much you get paid. For example, I know that an academic librarian (works in a university or research library) makes much more than a public librarian. But for any librarian job, you need a master’s degree in library and information science. You can still work in a library without a master’s degree, but you would likely be a library assistant, which makes less money and is often part time, unless the library is small and desperate for staff or you have equivalent experience and they’re willing to take you despite not having the master’s.

When I tell you that it took me *years* for some of my hobbies to re-emerge after the burnout I experienced in college. I used to write in my journals faithfully from age 7 onward... and then quit when I started university - couldn't keep up with it. Graduated university in 2012. As of 2022 I started journaling again as a whole ass adult in her 30s. And it's been so unbelievably rewarding. I don't think I could've really gotten into it any sooner, all that to say, the burnout is so real but don't give up hope on your hobbies. Some of the passion comes back LITERALLY A WHOLE DECADE LATER. and it will be completely worth the slow journey to get there. Additionally, thank you for the inspiration, Linh! 2024 is, for me, also a year to unapologetically enjoy what I enjoy and do the things I love, so I think maybe I should make a video about my hobbies as well... I have... A LOT OF HOBBIES.... and like, idk, learning about people's hobbies is so interesting to me!!! I LOVE videos like this! and it's so fun getting to watch you embrace your hobbies and commit to loving what you love.

Seeing the love you have for each of these hobbies is so beautiful. I feel like when we were kids, hobbies we spent our free time on are still what we naturally gravitate towards, but adult stuff gets in the way. It’s also way too easy to fall into the trap of having “hobbies” that are actually just obligations or habits. Once I gave myself the time to relax and enjoy swimming like I used to, I remembered how good it felt to love what I was doing. And I’ve been able to find that love in other areas of my life!

Some hobbies I would like to pick up are painting, pastels (I bought a set a year ago now and still haven't tried it), singing, and maybe try a sport like ice skating, roller blading or why not bouldering. (The sporty ones are the most difficult since it requires to go outside and be seen by people)

I’m a burnt out A/B student. I graduated high school a year ago, almost 2 now. I had been burnt out for a while. I’m just now going back to my hobbies. I am so glad this video popped up for me because I needed some motivation.

the little things i appreciated in this video: 1. that camera angle when she shared her books by the bed 2. putting the tissue box on top of the books 3. when she put the "o" at video games 4. when her cat went up to her when she played the ds on the sofa

I have begun studying, and I have had less time for hobbies. But in spite of that, I still squeeze in time for hobbies so I can refrain from burn-out. One thing I realized is that your time for the studies and chores, and time for hobbies, are like an economy; it is not only something you need to organize and manage to effectively get enough of it, but you need to do it from the beginning. An example is that once you begin studying, do it several hours a day so that at the end of the day, you can engage in your hobbies. In other words, do not engage solely in your hobbies for entire days, and then have the studies build up to almost unmanageable extent. It will make you burned out when you don't have time for hobbies anymore later! So that's my advice. Manage both study time and hobby time alongside each other constantly.

I love having hobbies. I love making artwork and junk journaling. I also enjoy writing poetry and reading. Nature walks are also amazing and I really love making KZitem Vlogs. :) Thanks for sharing your video. I found it to be motivational :)

I run a journal group with my coworkers and we all have different styles of creativity. We have prompts and exchanges. Our group has become a big source of community, inspiration and overall fun in the midst of our corporate lives. Some write, some draw, some collage, it's wonderful to see how everyone shares their creativity with each other. We also plan craft nights to hang out together. Stuff like shrinky dinks or pony bead bracelets. Hobbies are good for your soul!

i am SO happy you mentioned you like inter-generational stories in books because it gives me an excuse to recommend my favourite author: Kate Morton. She writes these long, intricate historical novels that are split into multiple timelines (usually one from seventy to a hundred years ago and one from either 90s/00s) where a mystery occurs in the historical time and then the present day MC tries to uncover what happened exactly. Most of her books (saying most because I haven't yet read them all so i don't actually know) follow this formula, but despite this they always feel fresh, and the plot twists are incredible. Like jaw drop, out lout "What?!", gotta take a few minutes to process type incredible. One thing I like about her books is that the pace is great even though the books are long. And no matter how complicated the story gets I always feel taken care of as a reader. I'm never worried I won't understand it in the end, because the author does a fantastic job laying everything out and tying it together. If you want a recommendation as to where to start, I recommend "The Lake House". It was my first one and is also still my favourite.

Idk why I rewatch this video so much, but it’s probably because it resonates in me. I used to be very creative, but somehow got eaten by my phone, by Netflix, by my assignments. This life of consuming constantly meaningless content does not make me happy. What makes me happy is making a mini doll house from cardboard, doing watercolor, playing video-games and reading. I guess your video is a reminder, so please never delete it ❤ it changes from the mentality of constant side hustle, and « yous hould wake up at 5 am and check the stock market and then go to the gym.. » No, we human, we need to have fun, otherwise, what’s the point ?

I recently started cross stitching - the materials are fairly inexpensive and its pretty easy to pick up as a beginner. You can also buy cross stitch kits to start out. I would totally recommend cross stitch if you're looking for a low-stress, easy hobby.

i graduate this year and i’ve been losing my interests and hobbies over the years since just before the pandemic hit. it’s a shame because i felt as though i saw a lot of people nurture their hobbies or discover new ones through covid and i just didn’t. it’s definitely not good for my mental health and i think having a neurodivergent brain it’s super important to keep it stimulated with healthy hobbies. i hope that this year is the year of the hobby for me, even if it’s just doing some baking once a month. when i finally finish all my university work i will have time and hopefully energy to make creative work that isn’t under the pressure to be submitted for examination.

OHMYGOD I just got another small burnout this weekend during my barista job, which I love, but I still started crying and couldn't do anything anymore. I have no hobbies anymore that I do for myself, everything I do, my artworks, my youtube channel, my music and acting is all so that I can have a career in artistry. I want to be able to get paid doing what I love, but it got me so obsessed that I forgot it's okay to just enjoy your hobbies. It's okay to play animal crossing again on the couch, eating a bag of chips and not worrying about your career moves. This video is like insanely timed to my life right now, haha, you inspire me to start gaming again. I'm gonna get my switch right away. Haven't seen it in two years, it's on my bookshelf, but I haven't touched it for so long.

Since I've graduated college and quit my full time job to take another career path I've had tons of time while doing part time remote internships at home. I feel so much better reading, playing games, building computers, and doing cross stitch than when I was scrolling on social media for entertainment. Hobbies have been such as huge mental health game changer!

Highschool absolutely ruines my motivation and mental health and I started abandoning my hobbies. I was always an art kid (against my will, music will always be #1 in my heart) and I made a lot of pieces but I dropped it a few years ago. After this past christmas and picking up some new mediums I finally started working on art again. Plus I'm trying to work more towards my future and so now I'm back into playing guitar since I want to be a musician!

Very late into 2023, I started trying to read more/read again :). I got very into the Hannibal series and now I have a pile of books! A big want of mine is to read all the "old" classics. Like the ones you'd hear every kid had to read in highschool or what not. I'm currently reading Good Omens, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and House Of Leaves! I also made a Goodreads. I wanted a way to physically track the boys I read/log them somewhere and this was the best choice I found :)!!

I have a few hobbies, but one hobby that I want to rediscover is writing. When I was in middle school, I discovered the fun of writing. It didn't matter if my writing was cringe. I pumped out words after words everyday and every moment I can. I wrote a lot, until I got into college in 2013. Thanks to smartphones and the ease of access to internet, I found myself not able to sit down for 5 minutes and write. Doubts and insecurities arise. Even though I write for myself, I still think that I'm writing for others to read. Reading other writings didn't help much. I compared myself to others. Couple that with English being my second language and my inability to write concise words and big sentences. Writing feels like a burden to me now.

I’ve had many of the same issues with keeping hobbies with my classes and course load. In 2023 I started knitting again after not touching it for many years and have been knitting in little increments before my classes started, when I have times where I don’t have enough time to set up and work but I have enough time to need something to do. I’m almost done with my scarf now and very happy with it. It’s definitely something I’m going to try and keep up with in the future

I am actually a gamer myself and it is actually a stress reliever at the same time it's also a stressful thing because I mostly play firing games such as Call of duty mobile, farlight, or APEX. I'm also an IT student where we're going to develop a game this semester (pray for me) and I am so happy that you have a goal to develop a game or to work on the game development field. I'm in my Junior year at uni and I'm trying to build hobbies instead of relieving them because I was an athlete before and just spent my time in social media and I really realized that it is so time consuming that I actually have no time to enjoy nature but yeah keep on grinding

My major burnout didn't start in college, but when I became a first-time homeowner in late 2017. Since then, I've had to juggle work, house projects, being a caregiver, family obligations, and general everyday household chores and maintenance. It's very easy to lose yourself in the demands of everyday life. However, in late 2022, I started being more introspective and taking care of myself. I found a cool online community and started making friends, and started giving more attention to my inner child in general. I got back into regularly playing video games again, especially the Nintendo 64 games I loved playing as a child. Lately I've gotten into randomizers, and have had a lot of fun discovering how they change how some of my favorite games are played!
