Wilf Carter, originally from Nova Scotia, worked as a cowboy in western Canada, then sang under the name Montana Slim. He was living in Scottsdale, Arizona when he died.

My mom was a big fan of wilf Carter. We went to see him when he came to Bashaw Alberta Canada where my mom was born and raised. He autographed the lp cover of his vinyl that we had. It was a big highlight of my youth.

And just imagine, he hailed from nova Scotia Canada, just like hank snow, the singing ranger and me. BTW, I grew up listening to these country greats. Check out Little jimmy dickens tracks. Take an old cold tater (and wait) , sleeping at the foot of the bed, and Out Behind The Barn if you fancy a grin.
