You have to download a driver to your cable then they will appear. I have a Gigawear usb to serial cable, once i downloaded the driver the COM ports appeared.

Try using a "genuine" USB cable. I couldn't see Ports (COM & LPT) until I used the cable that came with an official GoPro

The Ports(COM&LPT) branch does not show two USB devices I have plugged in. It does show a device that has dedicated installed software. The other two devices are an RTL-SDR (software defined radio) and my iPhone 4. The phone is accessible in terms of images. The radio uses non-dedicated generic software. No COM number was chosen during installation. Is there a way to determine the COM port? I can get the USB port and hub number.

You guys are missing the drivers for your usb to serial cable. Once you download COM port will show up instantly. Just solved this problem for myself.

If you don't see the COM ports listed in device manager that means you are missing a driver for your cable...Once you download the driver the COM ports will instantly appear.
