This tutorial is Part One of a series where I will create a Needle Felted Golden Retriever. In this video, I show you exactly how I make the wire armature for my tiny Mini Pets. Please note that the whole thing is ALMOST all done in "real time" so that you can see how long it takes me to make the armature and so that you can hear my comments as I make it.
This video is about making a wire armature for a golden retriever. In it, I use 20 gauge wire. Just in case you were wondering, I got the wire armature at Michael’s craft store, but you can easily find it on Amazon if you Google floral wire or armature wire. With wire, the lower the number, the thicker the wire. (So 22 gauge wire is much finer than 16 gauge wire.) Either can work, you’ll just have different results. I used pipe cleaner for a while and while it’s good for some things, it tends to be too flimsy to really hold its shape well. The lower the number, the harder it will be to bend. The higher the number, it may bend too much.
This is my first KZitem felting effort, and I would love to hear your feedback. I'm open to sharing whatever you would like to learn, so please let me know in the comments. I've only been needle felting since August 2020, so there are certainly those out there who have more experience than me! I'm just here to share what I've figured out with you and keep learning along the way.
I'm Jules, and I'm really glad you're here. I am a needle felter who loves making quirky, whimsical versions of people's pets. You can also find me here:
