100% get that. Even black Latinas lack understanding of what most BW go through. Being half Latina I have sat in conversations with my mom and aunts, some wyt passing and some blk passing and heard the differences in their views and experiences in healthcare. One of my best experiences working with a gyn was when I was assigned to work with a BW gyno. She was amazing and had higher credentials and interpersonal skills. But still received vitriol and disrespect from people around her. Until she decided to leave. She saved so many loves and was not appreciated. I learned a lot from her. When I went for an appointment, I was scared and needed a little reassuring that everything would be fine, so I had questions. The gyno I'm having my hysterectomy done by is a black male. However, the reason I chose him is because he makes a point to put patients first. I wanted a hysterectomy not done laprascopically, which means the surgeon makes small cuts to insert an internal camera. I don't want extra incisions to make their life easier. He is the only gyno surgeon in my area who does it non-laprascopically, because patient's well being comes before his own ease and convenience. He became a gyno because his cousin died in childbirth. His whole practice revolves around patient care and what's best for their health, and you can tell by everything they do and say. It's clear this joke just wanted to look at 🐱 all day. This might be a hot take but looking at the medical (and criminal) history of gynecology, it's pretty dark, especially when men started taking over this field. In the past, yt male doctors would do experiments on BW. In fact, lot of the discoveries of this field was developed on the backs of BW. If you want to go further back, you can read about female hysteria. It's literally a made up disease invented by men to dismiss women's pain and their treatment for it was to SA her (male doctors would finger a woman in the🐱). The bottom line is, men have proven time and time again that they see women as lesser beings and it's no wonder why women can't trust men.

I feel like for some issues, it's easier when your doctor personally understands what you're going through. I recently switched from a male gyno to a female after experiencing pain with intercourse. The male doctor just said, "maybe your opening is just too small for your partners parts".

SOOOO. My OBGYN was a white man for 8 years before he retired. I live in Charleston SC and I didn't have that many options. I was going through some medical issues and saw 3 doctors before I got to him. He was also head of the surgery department under his specialty and had all sorts of awards. He took great care of me during my surgery, and I stuck with him until I had my son 7 years later. He retired 4 months later. I believe in getting multiple opinions so I wouldn't settle based on the doctor looking like me, but I understand where the sentiment comes from. My first gyno was a man. He was fine. My next was a woman and the difference was stark. The way I was physically handled, the way I was spoken to and asked questions. Most women I've spoken to report the same, female gynos offer a better, less traumatizing medical experience. I was sterliized in 2022 and I felt I could trust a woman to do my surgery better than a man. Hell's bells, don't you remember the husband stitch? Which was often done without consent? Back of my brain was scared a man would either not completely remove my tubes like I asked, or outright lie to me so I'd end up pregnant thinking I was sterile.

A few years back I started having some itching down there and it was something really uncomfortable. I was sure it was not an STD or anything like that as at the time I did not have a partner and hadn’t had one for a long while and my previous tests were negative for anything. I went through my insurance and scheduled an appointment with a well know male gyno. By the time I got to the appointment I was desperate and had fluid coming out and had scratched myself raw si when I got to the Dr’s office I told him everything I was feeling, he never looked at me in the eyes while I was doing this but just scribbled down what I was saying and kept interrupting me saying what I was experiencing was not correct or could not happen, after this he proceeded to check my prívate parts and it was the most painful pelvic example I’ve ever had as I had previously stated I was raw down there and him ramming in the thing they use to bust you open was horrible. He kept on mustering things to himself while doing his thing and then proceeded to remove the aparatus forcefully which made me cry in pain. He then told me it was all in my head and that fluid is a normal thing and that I should learn how to be a woman and not cry for non sense. I felt violated and was even more uncomfortable than what I had originally been when I arrived as I was now bleeding because of his lack of care when inserting and removing his equipment. After crying for a few minutes in the bathroom of the office I decided to check my insurance director for a female gyno and I got an appointment for that same day and boy oh boy what a difference! She listened to me, asked questions and let me know everything will be fine and then was delicate when using her equipment. She asked me if I had been using anything new that would come in contact with that part and I then remembered I had switched detergents so she was able tomdetermine I had an allergic reaction to it and had contact dermatitis which had gotten really bad so she gave me a prescription and it worked! She let me know I was in a safe space from the begining and she has been my gyno ever since.
