This is by far the most challenging piece I have ever created. I had countless issues at almost every stage but I managed to resolve them all and successfully complete the project.
I've been working on this sculpture for over a month and a half and it's finally complete. I turned 3 segmented toruses from sycamore and then cut each one into thirds, I then recombined them back together to form the finished piece. It stands at 76cm long by 41cm tall and 14.5cm wide and contains 1,320 segments. I used Chestnut Products Cellulose Sanding Sealer and Melamine Lacquer to give a tough hard wearing finish. The base is made from a piece of green slate I bought from Honister Slate Mine in the Lake District a couple of years ago and is anchored to the sculpture with 2 bolts.
This will be my entry for the 2021 Royal Academy of Arts, Young Artists Summer Show.
