Old heads are the best. I had this one I worked with and one day we took down a bunch of old copper pipe and miscellaneous junk that was taking up space in the storeroom. He comes in the next day (which was his day off) took the scrap to the junkyard next door and promptly returns to me with like $250 in cash that I sure as hell did not expect. I was like what’s this?? He said “well you helped me take it down it’s only fair you get half.” I will never forget that man one of the kinder people I’ve met.

From 2018-19 ish my best friend was a 67 year old man. Old people are a trip. When they say they feel "young", they actually mean it bro. Its not just a saying. Its only when they look in the mirror or feel that body ache, that they realize they're getting old, but in their minds they're young. Don't treat them like old folks in terms of like conversation. Me and old dude chopped it up like I was talking to another 25yr old.

This is so on point, also at the beginning, they might not seem too friendly, but that's because they are trying to get a feel for what kind of worker you are. They've had tons of younger people come in who happen to have horrible work habits or just some who might act as if they are the king of the world. But once they see you're about your work and are willing to chop it up with them, they automatically become your best friends.

shoutout to von, a guy just like this. i worked at a wood shop over the pandemic when i dropped out of school. i’m back now. he never used ppe. breathed in saw dust all day and smoked. had 2 heart attacks AT WORK, right next to me. (we worked in the same department area). i kept telling him. “von your heart hurts and you can’t breath maybe you should go to the hospital since this happened like a month ago.” “nah grasshopper.” oh he called me grasshopper btw. he would always say i’m “going places” and that i have to “get back to penn state to get out of here.” he said his great cousin is in the NFL. i always asked for a picture but he never brought one. he walked me across the street to a thrift store and said he made thousands refinishing pieces of furniture and selling them online. probably true. he had suspicions his wife was buying things overseas to divorce him. she was a head nurse at a hospital and he said she lays his cloths out for “some reason.” that’s when i started to assume he had dementia or early onset dementia. usually it’s delirium when it first starts. he was 65 and working for fun. he had a nice retirement and pension. he “furnished a piano for saddam hussein” and was “sad when it got exploded when the americans bombed his house.” you can’t make this shit up he got fired after showing up late day after day thinking the place needed him. i took over the sanding and finishing department at 18 by myself lol. i had never done anything like that before in my life and i was running the department. we have million plus dollar orders for the military and shit and it was just me back there. i’m quality control essentially. all me bb. my first full time job was a fun one no doubt. i made 20,000 dollars and now i’m back at penn state.
