This is a great board, but I couldn’t imagine using this much stuff. My current setup is: HX Stomp XL - amps/cabs/tuner/noisegate/delay/modulation/pitch/midi controller Jackson Audio Asabi - Drives (it’s essentially 8 pedals in 1 + gain staging Jackson Audio Bloom - compression/EQ Walrus Audio R1 - Reverbs Walrus Audio Canvas Stereo - DI Sonicake vol/wah Strymon Ojai R30 - power GhostFire Baby Max board So, it’s basically 5 pedals and I have every sound imaginable.

That’s absolutely a killer way to do it. I just can’t deal with menus and such on pedals, it’s a specific workflow thing I have. I used to have more multi-fx pedals and I’ve just found I need to be able to reach down live and adjust one knob and know exactly what’s gonna happen.
@TheArbiterOfTruth
2 жыл бұрын
@@LeFeversAudio that’s also a satisfying feeling! Being able to adjust any effect live with real knobs is satisfying. I think for me, I just don’t use many effects other than drives/reverbs/delay, so the stomp gave me the option of any random effect should a song call for it (with Maverick city worship there’s a lot of tremolo these days) or that rare song that needs a reverse delay (champion) it’s nice to know they’re all in there. Plus it doubles as an audio interface and a midi controller 🤷🏼♂️ I will say, one thing I love about being a guitarist today is all of the options. There’s never been a better time to play guitar, you’ve got so many great sounding options, things are more portable and versatile. Modeling has come a long way since the original Helix (I swore I’d never go to a modeler, yet here I am haha) Loving your channel sir!

@@LeFeversAudio I know it looks complex, but honestly the simple ones really just make switching a bunch of pedals on or off simpler. Think of it like turning your all stombox board into a multi fx unit where one switch turns on and off a bunch of things on one footswitch so in actuality as crazy as switcher setups look, they are actually a way to simplify the function of a pedalboard. The more complex ones can even switch presets on multi fx units like the timeline via midi.

What's the thinking in putting the tuner behind the compressor instead of in front of the compressor? On my bass pedalboard, I've got the same tuner to start my signal chain then followed by the MXR compressor because my tuner doesn't need to be compressed? This is a great video for a professional sounding worship guitar. I would like to know more about your noise gate under the board. Would that be beneficial for a bass player?
@LeFeversAudio
2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Honestly, the tuner/compressor thing is probably just due to board layout. On my bass board I have the tuner first, but I think here because of the top mounted jacks on the compressor it made more sense to have it first. Really anywhere near the front is an okay place to have it. It just needs to be before the drives and octaves and stuff that could cause the tuner to get confused. As far as the noise gate -- it's an EHX Silencer, and I'm using it to cut down on pickup noise between songs. It's set to mute my signal when I'm not playing and then open back up the second I start. If you're getting a LOT of noise through your bass pickups it could be beneficial, otherwise there's probably no need. With guitar that noise can get really annoying, especially once you start adding distortions and stuff.

Hey Matt, any chance you can get your hands on an MXR Poly Blue octave pedal to compare to the POG? It seems you're the only person on KZitem capable of properly demoing an octave pedal. Everyone else plays just the worst and weirdest stuff that sounds like it belongs in a 1990s bowling video game
@Aevyn
2 жыл бұрын
What i mean by that is you play realistic stuff that sounds good but you also test the tracking accuracy of the pedals and reveal their weaknesses instead of just freaking out about how amazing they sound
@LeFeversAudio

Haha I lost it a little at ‘1990s bowling game’. 😂 I tried a Poly Blue in a store once, and was very disappointed, but to be honest I only spent a few minutes with it. I have these two or three riffs that trip up most octave pedal tracking so I went straight for those, and it glitched up pretty badly. I wanted to be excited about it, I love MXR, but it was a bad first impression. Maybe someday I’ll put one through its paces properly…

It’s a JA-90, the Jim Adkins signature Tele. It’s my favorite guitar ever, basically a Telecaster with Les Paul parts and P-90 pickups. I was always a Les Paul guy before I got into Fenders so it’s the best of all worlds as far as I’m concerned.

Hey Matt I enjoy your videos. I wanted to ask you also about the Micro POG. I have a Micro POG and had it on my board for a while, but never could bond with the octave sound in general. I love the sound you are getting. Would you mind sharing the approach you use to set up this pedal? What settings do you use on the 3 knobs? Thanks!
@LeFeversAudio
Жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, I love the Micro POG but you definitely have to be careful with that high octave especially. It’s rather shrill by itself. I almost always have the dry knob up all the way, the lower octave off, and the high octave at maybe ten o’clock… To dial it in, I’ll play a bit, then turn up the high octave until it becomes really obviously noticeable, then back it off a bit to ‘bury’ it under the main dry signal again. Hope that helps!

I saw a video you made 5 years ago demoing the Dunlop Echoplex. Did you switch to the Nemesis just for the versatility or was it also notably better sounding? I've been using a Neunaber delay pedal and have been wanting to try something new. Intrigued by the Horizon Devices Flux Echo
@LeFeversAudio
2 жыл бұрын
What I was doing there for about six years was running two delays, one to handle specifically tape delay and one to handle all the multi delay stuff like dotted eighths and reverse delays and analog. For a while I had the DD-20 as the all-around and the Echoplex doing just tape... then I swapped in the Nemesis as the workhorse one, and the El Capistan for tape. The Echoplex is amazing but I had wanted to try an El Cap for as long as I've been into pedals, and it gave me more control over some of the parameters (tape age, warble, saturation) that the Dunlop is kinda hard to fine tune. I still have the El Cap but I'm playing acoustic a lot these days so I simplified my electric board by moving a few of the pedals over to the acoustic board. So the Nemesis is handling all of it now. That was a long answer but as far as your original question goes: I actually like both the Echoplex and the El Capistan better than the Nemesis for tape delay. But I decided to temporarily move away from having a separate tape delay and just use one delay for everything. How is that Neunaber one? They make my very favorite reverb but I've never tried the delay. Honestly I hadn't seen this Horizon delay, though I always appreciate when a small delay pedal manages to put a tap tempo switch right on the unit.

@@LeFeversAudio i actually just swapped from a Neunaber Immerse mkii that I've used for a few years over to a GFI Skylar. The Immerse sounds great but it always seemed like it was just a synth pad that followed what i played, the GFI feels much more interactive with my playing. The Neunaber delay I'm using is their Expense pedal with the Exp controller. It gives me presets for 4 types of delay, with 2 presets for each type (total of 8 presets). So i run a clean digital delay, their Neu Tape delay, and two of their diffused echelon delays. Then i just have each type set to swap between dotted 8th and quarter note orders. Just feels overly complicated sometimes. I'm intrigued by the Flux Echo but my top choice for Friday would probably be the GFI Orca to match my reverb haha. The flux Echo sounded great in Bea's demo but he can make literally anything sound incredible and there aren't any demos of the pedal being used in a worship context
@LeFeversAudio

@@Aevyn I feel that -- that's why I made that Echoplex demo was because everything I could find back then was dudes doing blues riffs. Never enough worship or ambient demos of things, which is strange for a delay especially.

@@LeFeversAudio I'm still in the endless dive to find my new delay pedal and I've discovered that there are really just 3 main types of delay - tape (which rolls off low end), analog/bucket brigade (which rolls off high end), and digital (which doesn't roll off any frequencies. I could be wrong but it appears tape is your favorite? Is that what you use most of the time for p&w music?
@LeFeversAudio
2 жыл бұрын
I hadn't heard those described quite that way but yeah that basically makes sense. Either analog or tape is my favorite... I tend to use tape for long, ambient stuff where I really want to hear the delay, and then analog when I'm playing leads or big distorted parts and I want the echoes to stay out of my way a little more.

Worship Music is a genre, so it's a board designed to get those sounds. You could sub in "Post Rock" or "Ambient" for the nonreligious, those need similar pedals.
