This serves several purposes. It maximizes leverage, the pinky being the lowest point of contact on the bottom hand while the upper hand and wrist acts as a pivot point. Also, you can't really squeeze the hilt of a sword with all five fingers very hard and still maintain anywhere near the range of motion or fluidity as if you hold it this way, mostly because you can't really move your wrist around very much while squeezing hard. (this really only refers to slashing style, two-handed blades though) Make a really tight fist and move your wrist around. Now, just make a snug fist, but squeeze really hard with your pinkie and move your wrist around... See?

This is also probably why firearm triggers are only actuated by the index or at most both the index and middle finger. Because using the little finger to do so will sacrifice heavily the grip and thus handling of the weapon in your hands.

I study japanese sword, and yes the little fingers (and ring fingers as well) play a fundamental role in wielding the sword. I saw your video about balistic-isometrics last time, and now I'm training my grip strength using mostly that method. It's very intense, but I feel that it's altready improving my grip strength. Thanks Adam , I always watch ur vid on flow States and I really am Motivated to train hard but can u pls tell me some exercises to dodge ( more reaction time ) and increase punching power thanks
@guy5140
5 жыл бұрын
To increase reaction time practice keeping your eyes open while getting hit. The better you at keeping your eyes open during sparring will dramatically increase reaction time. It is important to also be attentive while keeping yours open. At the end of the round you should be able to remember every move exchanged between you and your partner. As far as increasing punching power practice horse stance all the while attempting to sink your weight into the ground. The better you are making yourself heavy the more punching power you’ll have. But there is a catch, you need to have a great core and hips

@Luke Brown thanks I appreciate your answer!! Well I had to start working soon and I do landscaping. I kept doing push ups and pull ups and things that didn't bother the finger at all because I believe and have experienced that a "trained" body heals quicker than an untrained body if that makes sense. But did my best to not do anything that caused pain. I think all of this helped me to heal faster. So I was curious. Thank you so much!

I think some cool areas you could touch on where there is a lot to work with is: • Jason Bourne's Situational Awareness. In the movie, he was able to learn the license plates of the 6 cars in the parking lot and that the waitress was left-handed among other things by noticing without obviously paying attention. While this isn't normally done this way, being able to analyze your surroundings would be something a peak human, both physically and mentally, would need. • Tom Cruises' underwater breathing regimen for Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation. He was able to hold his breath for over 6 minutes with a routine he was using. This would be beneficial not only cardiovascular endurance, but being able to hold your breath for a long time underwater would prove useful any peak human in the event of a water torturing method.

String players can benefit from engaging the pinkies of both hands. This is more convenient on bowed strings, since the pinky already does a lot of work pushing down on the stick to leverage weight away from the strings as the hand and arm approach the instrument. But the biggest group of musicians to get the most drastic improvement are guitarists. Many guitarists let their pinkies fly far away from the fretboard, and neglect to train the pinky. A warmup in which the pinky is made to perform 50% of the stops while staying aligned with the strings can develop strength that also improves the performance and alignment of the rest of the hand. The other hand benefits from finger strums without guitar picks, with extra time given to the pinky. Players of electric guitars, steel string acoustics, and classical guitars benefit from doing a few pinky-involved Flamenco strumming exercises on a regular basis. The speed and strength developed make sound production bigger, and the increase in precision deepens the range of expression.

One way I think of this one is like how the pinky contributes to the overall shape of the hand almost like how the arches of the feet work. If you relax your pinky it’s like actively not engaging your arch in the feet and that would leads to more difficulties in maintaining whatever shape you please (foot triangle or grip)
@calebryant6663

The pinky on the non-dominate hand becoming stronger is called "compensation strength" . We became familiarized with it while shooting guns. Its up to the bioneer to find out & go into detail from that term alone.

Wow! This is incredible. I am crawling every day as part of my routine, and this morning I tried putting emphasis on the pinky. I felt an immediate burn, so this is obviously a weak link for me. Can't wait to see the results in overall performance once this link in made up to par. Cannot help but think if there's similar applications for the little toe, which for most is completely immobilised by modern footwear. Thanks Adam.

I've been trying to find some video talking specifically about the pinky muscle and this kinda covered what I wanted to know but it's funny you say the pinky strength on the dominant hand is much greater because it's the opposite for me. The muscles on my left pinky look like a balloon with how massive they are especially when you compare it to my right hand which are probably average size. I'm right handed but I always noticed that my left hand is significantly stronger
