Placing signs in the right-of-way violates City ordinances 15.10.030 and 15.25.140, both of which can carry a two hundred dollar fine plus court costs. Also, signs cannot be placed on items in the right-of-way, like utility poles, utility structures, trees, traffic control devices, and City property. Signs must not block the line-of-sight for drivers.
On average, Edmond’s Code Enforcement officers remove sixty to seventy signs per week. During an election cycle, that number jumps significantly to one thousand or more. It’s a problem that the department encounters throughout the year.
