I found one of these jukeboxes at a thrift store yesterday. I was gonna try to flip it or maybe put a Bluetooth speaker in it, but having seen yours in action (I still haven't picked up the batteries for mine, I'm not even sure if it works), I think I'll keep it and leave it as it. The sound is surprisingly decent. Even if the casing is different, it looks like it has regular audio tape inside. I wonder how hard it would be to 3D print the parts to make additional cases and put the guts of regular cassettes inside?

The tape itself is specially made. Regular cassette tape just hangs up when trying to loop it. Tried it. You could surely make additional cases though!

I'm guessing as to why regular cassette tape stock would hang up in one of these cartridges, is that it lacks the required back-coated lubrication layer used by endless-loop tape stock, which is required for an endless-loop wind as these (and any other) endless-loop tape cartridge would use. As you probably already knew, the back-coated lubrication mostly eliminates the friction that causes normal non-back lubricated tape to hang up when wound in an endless loop. 8-track cartridges used tape that had a bonded graphite layer for the back coated lubrication, with later tapes using a teflon-like back-coating. I know there's still some stocks of back-lubricated 1/4"-wide tape stock for 8-track and 4-track/broadcast cart use still laying about out there as NOS, but 1/8" back-lubricated tape like what the cartridges for the Pocket Rockers and this Wurlitzer jukebox use might a bit more rare of a bird to find, I'd guess....

Question! Is there a way that I can fix/ repair the "playback" arm that the quarter hits to replay the tapes? I noticed that when I insert the quarter to replay the tapes the arm inside the slot doesn't register it. I have to lay the jukebox on it's back insert the quarter, then lift it upright slowly. But that method only works sometimes. Thanks in advance!

You’ll need to open it and use light sandpaper on the contact area of the thin metal ribbon.

@BertGrink

I think he said it takes "D" batteries, at least that's how i heard it. However, if you're handy with a soldering iron, or know someone who is, you could always do the same mod that databits did, i.e. run it off a 6- or 9-volt power supply (whichever one is appropriate).
