Great vid! The scope and training was developed by german engineers and advisors throughout the interwar years by request of the soviet union. Ussr hired many german officers and engineers in the interwar period. It was a great way for the germans to develop their ideas without angering the british and french and the us with the extreme restrictions they put on germany after ww1.

Which scope do you prefer? Is there notable differences in performance or other aspects?
@archer721
8 ай бұрын
@@Roderik95 - I prefer my PEM, mostly because the turrets are smother and a slightly larger field of view… the weight of the PEM is NOTICEABLY higher though. As far as the reticle goes they are nearly identical and the both have a much finer point on the post than any reproduction that I’ve seen. I think the rifles themselves preform about the same… but I seem to shoot just a bit better with the PEM although my son shoots the PU better than I can… so he would say the PU… and it is noticeably lighter and not as cumbersome to use… just a matter of preference… so, I guess I would have to say “I prefer the PEM” Edit: they were both produced at the Izhvesk factory the PEM is a 1942 the only year of production at the Izhevsk factory and the PU is a 1943 and in a lot better condition. Both are excellent shooters.

Rob, how did you attach the burlap to it? My first gun of my own is a M44. I was told at the time by the men at the store the distributor got it from an underground depot in Ukraine. This was some 15-20 years ago for $149. I hand selected it from over 100 guns. It is the last gun I would ever sell as it was not only my 1st but came from Ukraine. So it is tripple special for me. It is a '44 Izzy that was depot refurbished and is in great condition. A side note is the action is clearly reworked from an old American WW1 Mosin based on underside of receiver. It was ground off and remarked and reworked into an M44. All matching except has a Tula bolt head. Never had any functional issues with it or the ammo. Kicks like a mule because of the steel butplate but isn't bad at all either. Only hickup was a rusted out barrel band retainer that was easily pushed out and replaced. It has a fairly tight headspace but stillmloose enough to shoot all ammo. Lastly, before the war started, I managed to acquire most of the armoroers tools for this as well!

Hi, to not waste ammo, start at 25yds, get on paper and then move to 100yds. Now, remember that BDC was set for meters (for ball ammo), so if you could push it to 109yds with change, that would be better. I used 174gr SB factory ammo. That completely throws BDC off, but here is range card from this video: www.gunboards.com/cdn-cgi/image/format=auto,onerror=redirect,width=1920,height=1920,fit=scale-down/www.gunboards.com/attachments/dope-jpg.4194522/

About ten or fifteen years ago, I was lucky enough to walk out of a Cabelas with a M91/30 made in Tula in 1939 that (I discovered when I got it home and looked up the markings) was marked "SP" (in Cyrillic) on the receiver, making it, in theory, a rifle selected for the sniper program. The receiver is also clean, with no machining to accept a scope mount. Any thoughts on this rifle? I'm curious, given the information in this video that production of the M91/30 PU started in 1941, two years after mine was made.

I have more than a few mosin nagants. I have several of the carbine length ones too. Anyway I wanted to put a scope on one of my full-sized mosins. I didn't have the money to get an actual preiod Correct scope. I have a buddy who is a gunsmith although I don't know how good now that I think about it. He owed me some money so I had him fix a revolver of mine and Parkerize it. I had a budget scope that I wanted him to put on my Mosin. I felt bad not putting the correct scope on it but I really wanted to see what I could do with this scope any scope on it. However I got it back and his work looks a little sloppy. I haven't had the chance to take it out and test it yet but I really want to see how far I can push it. I wish I had to wear with all to actually get a correct scope. We'll see I'm excited to put some rounds down range with my mosin even if it is just a budget scope. Maybe his little half-assed scope mount will work we'll see..
